I love Happy Endings...and Max was a big reason why. I thought he was one of the more interesting gay characters on t.v. because of how un-stereotypical he was. Plus him and Grant (James Wolk...swoon) were a hot couple!

 

I haven't seen enough shows with out LBGTQ characters to have a top ten.

My favorite undeniably canon queer character is Nitori from Wandering Son, followed by Nezumi and Shion from No. 6.

My favorite questionably canon queer characters are Homura, Kyoko, and Sayaka from PMMM. Before seeing Rebellion I wouldn't have felt right including them in the list, but after that movie...I'm calling their ships canon. See the spoiler (which contains actual SPOILERS, albeit minor ones, for the movie) for details.

Homura refers to her feelings for Madoka as love, though she doesn't explicitly say romantic love. Kyoko and Sayaka have a very touching scene in which they hold hands, and the latter says that her sole regret in dying was leaving the former behind. Then she complains about another character interrupting "the moment."

Then there's Kino, who reads as both genderqueer (they object to being referred to as "Miss" in one episode, for example) and attracted to women (see the episode with Nymia). Lastly, an honorable mention goes to Shinji from NGE, who appears to be bi based on blatantly obvious attraction to women and his feelings for Kaworu.

 

Surprised nobody has mentioned Naomi Campbell or Emily Fitch from Skins. Naomily was arguably one of Skins' most epic relationships.

I think I'd love Utena, but I haven't read it yet. I found a gif set from this series that was the reason I wanted to read the books. It extols the virtue of the Prince that appears in Utena's life riding a white horse, then ends 'This was all well and good, but so impressed was (Utena) by him that the princess vowed to become a prince herself one day...' I've not heard of Degrassi or Out with Dad though... but the couple in Modern Family are good together. I like it when the characters and storyline let LGBT people be happy and happy with themselves- Jack Harkness too.

 

I was just thinking, Kaworu from Neon Genesis Evangelion was pretty good, too. Definitely calmed Shinji down. Shinji was good, too, I'm gonna guess he was more likely bi, but he had so many other issues going on it's hard to say...
