I've emptied my catheter bag in the sink out of necessity. Sometimes I can't get in the bathroom stall or close to the urinal. I do run soap and water in the sink when I'm finished.

This is one of the things that sucks about being a truck driver. People don't give a fuck about "public" bathrooms. Those just happen to be the ONLY bathrooms for truck drivers.

How I'm still alive from being forced to use them is beyond me.

That's pretty disrespectful to the other people that wash their hands in those sinks and the people that have to clean them.

I love the rebelliousness of this and the challenging of social norms, but I'm a total germaphobe. Sorry : 3

Urine is sterile when it first comes out and is a decent percentage ammonia, which is used as a powerful cleaning chemical. So there are probably fewer germs in the sink immediately after peeing in it. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I have a similar urge to go on the floor of said restrooms. I never actually act on it though, knowing that other people have to go in there and deal with it. So niceness prevails over rebelliousness in my case.

I'm just weird though, with my pee-fascination.

Sinks don't have a flushing mechanism, the pipes can technically handle urine but the sanitary measures taken to clean sinks don't usually account for the possibility that someone is pissing in them. In every establishment I've worked in, the standard for daily cleaning of sinks isn't as thorough as that for cleaning toilets and urinals. I'm just imagining my food service jobs and the lengths workers go through to keep our hands clean, and to keep piss out of people's food and drink. You don't wash your hands in the toilet bowl, that's why there's all this plumbing available.

Unless you're bypassing your urethra (via a catheter and assuming no kidney or bladder infections) then no, it's not.

Well ^^Pansy mentioned that it's not completely unless you bypass the urethra, but close enough I suppose.

C'mon, public bathrooms are gross enough...

Thank you! I'm so sick of this idea of urine being magically sterile.

I think it is very disrespectful to other people who expect the sink to be clean. Even if you "aim", there will be a lot of splashing that could even reach the faucet and handles. If I saw someone trying to pee in a sink, I would get very angry and start yelling or do something totally out of character.

Urine is not sterile when it comes out. It comes into contact with bacteria when passing through the urethra. Recent research also suggests that urine is not even sterile before that step. Moreover, the urea that decomposes produces a lot of nutrients for bacteria and other things to grow and reproduce, which is unhygienic.

Sounds like the prime environment for an old wives' tale, but would a nurse intentionally lie about a bodily function?

As someone who also cleans public restrooms for a living, I have to agree.

You can google it if you don't believe me? The urethra is filled with bacteria. Also urine in a chlorinated pool (which kills most of the bacteria anyway) is very different from urine sitting in the U-bend of a sink.

Anyway I'm not really interested in a long debate over the science of pissing in public sinks, but if anyone thinks it's an ~edgy form of rebellion~ they really need to think about who they're rebelling against, because ~the man~ isn't the one who has to clean up after you, lol.

    This is not cool.

I was on vacation and peed outside twice. In one case, I did so in a thicket of landscaping at night when there were no services available to the public and I needed to make a long drive more palatable. In another case, it was at a turnout, in the trees along a rural highway, hidden from traffic.

I don't think peeing on concrete in an urban place is cool, especially during the daytime, but it's a little easier to deal with than a sink which others use. Doing so in a rural setting where you are not visible is ok by my book. It sounds like a defiance issue of sorts, though.
