Most gay people don't magically not have babies if they can get married; they already were or weren't having babies, and they can likely do better if they can get married.

    *sigh*

I'm sure that with 7 billion people on the planet, depopulation is the LEAST of our worries.

Yes, the population of most of Europe is decreasing. It's because social services have prevented the need to have so many children in case one dies. Putin hates both the poor and LGBT people.

Of course, Europe will now have to focus on public health in order to make sure people are productive into their seventies.

So if we can't get married we'll start having babies?

The poor or the middle class? Looking at history, family size started dropping as the middle class emerged. I haven't done research to identify what the link might be, but I'm certain there's some type of link between the two.

Because dictators have immense power and affect hundreds of millions of lives. He's wrong, but he can't be dismissed as a crazy when his craziness (which is actually calculated intelligence, as he needs a scapegoat to distract the Russian people) affects so many lives.

I'd consider them linked. A middle class arises with public services; try running a welfare state without lawyers, public servants, and medical staff. But back to Putin, he's got the ROC parroting the Kremlin's will in their sermons, and this attitude means that he can affect what ordinary Russians believe with a word to his lapdog priests.

That's just Russia though. Why does he think non-Russians care about his opinions regarding anything? He's a corrupt dictator who helms a shitty country that can't get its act together despite having massive resources. The only people who seem to see him as someone worthy of consideration in the West are radical conservatives.

Life is really hard for gay people in Russia right now. What makes men like Putin so homophobic? I just don't get it.

People fear that which is different from them. It's unfortunately a naturally engrained social reaction to some extent. Most people [read: normal socially functioning people] are civilized enough to ignore these vestige instincts from the times when we were swinging around in trees, but some people just don't bother and go on hateful tirades.

He has immense power, and ignoring Russia is basically giving them a get-out-of-gaol-free card when it comes to diplomacy. If he's still reliant on the West, then he can't go completely fascist (but he's getting there) without a European backlash.

If he's left on his own, Russia will fail because of trade, but the rich will still be rich, and the Russian poor will be affected.

"Let us make our own choice, as we see it for our country"

No. When you don't see anything wrong with abusing and harming a specific minority in your population, you do not get the freedom of "choice."

Yes but obviously Putin's choice is the only one that matters.

That's not only Homophobic but also very ignorant and racist well! :tantrum:

Russia's Aryan(anglo, white or whatever) population is far from going into decline elsewise Russian orphanages wouldn't be so crowded with a great many people seeking adoptions(international) from there, the people he's referring to are there, he's just not taking care of them.

So why doesn't he personally keep the population afloat, being the awesome infallible hetero he is? Time's a wasting. At the rate this guy is cranking out hateful comments, the olympics will be an unwatchable vomit-fest indeed.
