Right on and I am one of them. It really weirded me out at first that I was drawn to gay male porn..and exclusively the super sensitive romantic kind. I thought I was alone in that respect.

I know the feeling. To use a silly example: I was watching an anime, wherein the 8th episode there is a same-sex kissing scene with both genders. Que many guys quitting the series because two guys kissed, wich is gay (you can really tell how smart they are) but not mentioning or complaing about the kiss beween the two girls.
Its an irrational double standard thats unlikely to disappear.

Funny thing is that in anime/manga this often the other way around.
Both gay and lesbian manga is mostly written by women, but where lesbian manga is written by lesbians who write from their own emotional and experience reference points, gay manga are often written by women who have an extremely romanticised and particurly feminine idea of romance. Which results in the cliche of one of the men in ge relationship being incredibly feminine and submissive.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I've felt that there is definitely homophobia of the same kind that exists between straight women and lesbians. Perhaps less overt than male homophobia, but still there regardless.

These sorts of threads always derail into sexist attacks and generalizations towards straight guys. It's not cool, guys. Just because the extremely loud minority are completely bigoted doesn't mean that all or most straight guys are like this. I know in certain parts of the world most of them probably will be, and if you're living in one of those parts, it's more understandable for you to make these generalizations but even so, just don't make them. If you do start to make them, you'll start to make instinctive assumptions about people before you give yourself a chance to get to know them. You'll meet a straight guy who bears no homophobic inclinations whatsoever and yet in your mind you'll already be on the defensive, waiting for some kind of reaction from him; purely because you've degraded yourself by conforming to stereotypical views of different genders. Just stop and think. You don't like it when you're generalized, so don't do the same of other people either.

There is a basis in truth to most stereotypes and obviously there are plenty of straight guys like this. But nowhere near all. Again, location is vital, so I hesitate to assume I know everything about where you guys live. But I'll reiterate what I've said before about my school (starting my final year [17-18] in a week) and that is that the girls are a lot more homophobic than the guys. There are a few male douchebags who don't tolerate homosexuality, although none of them are wildly obsessively against it. But so many girls in my year make insensitive, rude and disgusting comments about lesbians whilst demeaning their "gay best friends" by treating them as girls and not really respecting them when it comes down to it.

Homophobia is a vile phenomenon. But to stop it being carried out, one shouldn't just complain about all the "chauvinistic straight male jock douchebags" who perpetrate it; one should actually look at who is perpetrating it (yes, some straight males do, but it's not all them) and also just think about what is the best course of action. Because I sure as hell don't think just attacking them and making ignorant assumptions about them is the right way to go about things.

TLDR; Stop making rash generalizations about straight guys and understand that progress is made most effectively when it comes about through peace and discourse, not brash retaliation.

I don't think anybody who posted in this thread is actually under the assumption that homophobic behaviour is a constant among the entire heterosexual population.

I think you're reading too much into what I believe is just a bit of a tongue-in-cheek. If it isn't, then I more or less agree with you.

I think both lesbianism & males who are gay give threat to any homophone straight male. I say this from my own experiences.

Lesbian - They HATE the fact that a true lesbian doesn't need their genitals to get pleasure, or even that we don't look up to them or need/crave them.

Gay males - That homosexual acts between 2 men are pleasing & loving including a monogamous loving relationship being fulfilled in all aspects of a relationship.

Homophobic men probably feel with both gay genders jealous that that of us are able to be in a loving, healthy relationship that equates both parties. Something they probably have never experience as they themselves know they don't satisfy their partners sexually and not sexually. They have big inferiority complex about themselves either sexual beings or just beings full stop.

I would never take it personally or get hung up on it. Really its their problem let them carry the weight of those hatred emotions themselves!

Their intelligence is nil; to such a degree, I am almost indifferent to those types of statements and want to laugh. Guys who say similar things are applying no logic or reasoning and fail to recognize their double standards. It's actually difficult for me to be angry with someone with such a low IQ. The world is moving and progressing fast and if one is so ignorant in one domain, their ignorance is likely diffuse.

Interestingly in all of these Islamic countries with homophobic laws, man on man sex is illegal but there is nothing outlawing girl on girl.

Lots of US Sodomy laws were removed in the 70s, though I can't tell if they applied to female couples. I am aware that the way many rape laws were written, (many have been updated in the last 20+ years to make it possible for anyone to commit) it was only possible for a man to commit, so it wouldn't surprise me if the same legislators thought it's only sex if a man is involved.

This. I really hate the seme/uke creepyness in manga and how some people think about homosexual relations. The point of homosexual relations are not that one person is 'feminine' and the other 'masculine'... I don't like unequal heterosexual relation either btw.

My fiancee's brother said that to her. He has no issue with two women having sex, though he doesnt like it if she is doing it, but getting married is just wrong. WHAT THE HELL!!!!

Yep. This is also the reason why lesbians are more widely accepted in society. Everything (especially media) is controlled my mostly white, straight men. Whatever they think, goes. That's why they add more lesbian characters on tv than gay men. It's less controversial, but still a way for them to show that they're LGBT friendly. I say BS. If you only add lesbian characters, you're not LGBT friendly at all.. you just feed into the sexual objectification of lesbians, and it's gross.

Wooo, boy. A couple of thoughts:

1. Same-sex attracted women do *not* have it easier, just different. We are not "more accepted by society", especially if we're butch, androgynous, or especially trans*.

2. The fact that "girl-on-girl action" isn't/wasn't specifically illegal doesn't mean it isn't condemned regardless. Look up a film called Circumstance for an insider's view on how much fun it is to be a lesbian in the Middle East.

3. Contrary to popular belief, lesbians are not considered sexy any more than gay men. Not real ones, anyway. (see nos. 1 & 2) "Lesbian" porn is a turn-on only if it plays female sexuality as a performance art for men's enjoyment.

Honestly, watching two people get it on (hetero & homo) doesn't do it for me anyway. I find porn so hilariously bad that I end up making fun of it MST3K style. But that's just me.

So.. how many women are violently attacked because they are lesbian? Certainly fewer than gay men.

How many times are lesbians faced with "eww, lesbian sex is gross"? Hardly ever. Compare that to all the comments about how gay anal sex is disgusting.

How many places in the world are lesbian sex illegal? Again, not as many places as gay male sex is illegal.

Who has more visibility in entertainment, lesbians or gay men? Most likely lesbians, there's been more lesbian characters on tv these past few years, and lesbians actually get to kiss and have sex, while gay kissing get censored on shows like Revenge and Secret Life. Movies like the French lesbian movie has no trouble getting made, while a quality movie like Behind The Candelabra ends up on HBO due to Homophobia, nobody would even touch the movie, since it was deemed "too gay". Mainstream movies literally CANNOT be gay, while that same issue don't seem to affect lesbian movies (again, the lesbian French movie, Black Swan etc).

I am NOT saying that lesbians never face bigotry and homophobia, they certainly do. But in terms of acceptance in society.. it's clear. Lesbians are more accepted, even if it is for the wrong reasons. I find it ridiculous that we even discuss this when it's obvious that lesbians are more accepted, and it's been that way for years. I don't see it changing in the nearest future either.

I dont know about Austraila...but I have to agree with sokk. It is easier to be a lesbian than a gay male in America.
We are more widely accepted. Our sexuality is viewed more. Even on TV, gay men are "sexless" and used more for entertainment, while we have relationships.
While I know we lesbians have it hard...we are more widely accepted. To the point its annoying.
I'm a lesbian, who while out with her fiancee was stared down by a man as if he were waiting for us to put on a show. it was creepy...yet I'm pretty sure the same man would have been hurling anti-gay slurs at a gay couple.
We arent as illegal, as gay males are. Sodomy laws are aimed at them, have been used against them far more than against women. Even in other countries.
I love my gay bros, love them dearly and I acknowledge that as a woman...its easier. Especially as a feminine woman. I do think butch/stud women have it harder than we do as far as society's acceptance, but for the average lesbian, we are more accepted.
