It's very understandable bitterness, and it's never going to put a dent on straight or cis supremacy.

I guess some people feel the need to hate others to be free. Hating heterosexuals or anybody is never the way to solve anything.

Heterophobia, in the truest sense, would be absolutely ridiculous, since heterosexuality is perfectly natural. However, I have always considered myself to be slightly heterophobic, in the sense that heterosexuality freaks me out in the same way that homosexuality disgusts many heterosexuals. Heterosexual behavior and attraction is instinctively gross, and confusing to me. That being said, I understand homophobia very well, because it's the same psychological response, only with the sexual orientations flipped around. Of course, logical and rationality allow me to see that my instincts are flawed, so I am not fearful or intolerant, or anything like that.

You can be phobic of just about anything.

    For example,
Xanthophobia – fear of the color yellow
    Somniphobia – fear of sleep
    Phagophobia – fear of swallowing

i know, but you just said the following,

it's natural, therefore it can not be the source of people's phobias. two conflicting ideas here.

I suppose I didn't explain it well. It is not often that you see people with phobias for natural things, like heterosexuality or sleeping, because the phobias are so ridiculous that they have no choice but to seek psychiatric help to overcome them. Phobias for "unnatural" things, like clowns, or spiders, often go untreated, because even when they are reasonably serious, the trigger for fear is uncommon in daily life.

That's kind of a blanket statement. I know a good bit of cis heterosexuals out there who are very supportive of equal rights. On the other hand I can kind of understand the sentiment.

    Water doesn't oppress humans.

Also, friendly reminder to the thread that we're not talking about medical phobias when we use 'homophobia' or 'heterophobia'. We're talking about prejudice.

Heterophobia is ridiculous, and most often based in ones own internalized homophobia. Basically, it's jealousy of "the straight life" as though there is a thing.

To be heterophobic would be incredibly childish.

I'm attracted to straight men, but I rarely, if ever like them. I actually kind of detest straight men. Is it heterophobia? I have no problem with straight women.

But I don't think its bitterness or jealousy or any other problem. It's not really hate on my part. Straight men and I live in different universes, even when they try to be nice guys. Sorry, I'm incredibly childish.
