I'm surprised at South Africa's result.

America is rather disappointing. I'd love it if America was at least more tolerant of the LGBT community.

21% of people in my age group (18-29) in the UK don't believe homosexuality should be accepted.

Who on earth are these people and where are they?

I notice they didn't include the Netherlands, Belgium or Scandinavian countries, so I imagine that they'd beat Spain.

Norway certainly wouldn't.. no. Most people here think gay people are sick, and call it "unnatural". Norway is a conservative Christian sh*thole :frowning2:

I never really expected the US to be in the top 10 anyway.

I'm surprised that the Philippines in is the top ten while its neighbour Indonesia is in the bottom ten.

39 countries out of around 200 isn't really a truly global survey though. I'd be interested in the results for other countries like Jamaica, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, India, Thailand, Taiwan, the Netherlands, Finland, Poland and Vietnam.

It's also incredibly racist, particularly Catalonia.

No way France is that gay friendly. Didn't you see the overwhelming anti-gay marriage protests?

And where is Portugal? They have almost identical (and probably the fairest policies on gender equality in the world) policies to Spain?

I actually think it's correct. I believe many people in France are gay friendly, it's just that the homophobic minority is very vocal, and it seems like they have some power too. France is the ONLY western European country where acceptance of homosexuality DECREASED. It was at 83 % in 2007, while it was only at 77 % in 2013. France's acceptance of homosexuality decreased by 6 %.

Yeah, near where I lived, some of the cops seemed to have a "stop all the black drivers" policy. I didn't live in Cataluña though. Further south.

Cataluna is also incredibly racist towards Spaniards. They hate on Spaniards and make fun of them all the time. They refuse to be associated with them, or Spain in general. It kinda reminds me of Quebec in many ways.. they are catalan or quebecer before spanish/canadian, they refuse to speak spanish/canadian and are basically insulted someone would think they are spanish/canadian. There's a lot of racism among the minority groups in Spain and Canada. Especially in Canada where you have the French nazi language police.. ugh, disgusting!

Where are Denmark, Sweden and the Netherlands in this list? I believe they'd very high on the list..

I wouldn't say it's quite that bad. Cataluña is more anti-Spain than anti-Spanish if that makes sense. For the most part, on a day to day basis, it's really not a problem. I know a number of Catalan people here, and I have some friends living in Barcelona, and they say that it's really not that big a deal and get on great with Spaniards. But as with everything it seems, those who do have a problem are very vocal about it.

Great that you skipped Norway.. seems like we're pretty forgettable on a world basis, even among Scandinavians themselves.

It seems like most of the countries in the research report were the bigger ones, with the bigger economies.. like the UK, Spain, France, Germany.. they kinda skipped the smaller countries, like Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Iceland, The Netherlands etc.

That's ironic. I'm in Spain right now :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Maybe I can use my Spanish heritage for immigration purposes... or not.

Anyway, proud that Australia is at #5. I was expecting a little lower, so that was a bit shocking.

I was wondering the same. I would've thought Sweden would be #1 considering their laws and legal rights.
