This is an ignorant, contemptible, and empty man without a shred of true religion. He has no capacity to love, think for himself, or understand anything of importance. It is tremendously sad that this young man had such a father, but not sad that he is done with him. I just hope he did not swallow all of the hate and turn it inward. A rag doll would be a better parent. There's no cure for stupid.
Who isn't to say that is true religion? I'm not attacking religious people, I'm just saying that religion can fuel some serious hate sometimes.

yea i saw this letter last year, so ridiculous, you know, i could understand doing that to your child if he was a rapist, pedophile, murderer, or did any other monstrosity like that, but just for being gay? really? all i hope is that this young man can still have a great life without his dark ages-mentality father
Actually, there are parents of murderers who act more like real parents than this guy. I have seen news stories about parents whose child is a mass murderer and is executed. In at least one case, I recall getting the sense that they feel yes, they recognize that the murderer child did awful things, but he is still their child.

That is horrible. Yet, that is what almost every person on this forum has feared in their lifetime. I've always believed that out of ANYone in someone's life, a parent is the one person who should have unconditional love your you as a child. This letter proves to me that he is better off without this ignorant bigot of a father in his life. It's heartbreaking that a father can be that cruel to his offspring. A real shame.
You are so right, rejection is a major factor in coming out, I have a friend whose Mother rejected him when he came out & she cut him off completely, which I think is so sad, I have mentioned him before to my Mom & she was disgusted with her for doing that to her son, this gave me some hope about coming out
