That's true but it's like our society can't help but want to slap a label on Everything..

I don't fit into any categories either, nor do I want to. I'm just myself. Femme, butch, or whatever don't really work. When pressed, I would say soft butch, only because it actually means somewhere in the middle. That's how I feel. I dress a bit tomboyishly, but I act pretty feminine. I'm just me.

I was actually thinking about the same thing; someone brought that up during my last class on gender and sexuality (although not in terms of lesbian identity). It seems like there is a general switch towards less binary.
At the same time, at least from my personal observation, I've noticed that this binary does work, as most seem to seek "opposite". This is a bit sad to me, as I am generally attracted to girls within the same gender expression as myself.
However, I personally do not identify with either (I am definitely not fem though), but if there was a term that I'd feel comfortable with, i wouldn't mind owning it. I've heard others use "androgynous", but in my opinion androgynous refers to both fem+masculine in equal amounts. In my case, and in most others, it's more of a spectrum.

i don't really identify as a particular type. i have long hair and wear lots of dresses and skirts. i hate makeup and heels but i still come off looking like a really girly girl anyway. but i also like to hike, do mud runs, rock climb, climb trees, etc.

I'm a little queer and I defy most gender stereotypes, Whether you call me a he or she on the street I don't care ( My gender expression can be confusing ) but when thinking about sex i identify as a queer female who likes other queer females. So i do wear the name Lesbian and I am proud of it. As I said I can be very confusing.

I HATE lesbian gender labels. I'm technically soft butch, but I don't really identify as a type; I'm just me. There are femme and "butch" straight women too, but they don't use those labels.

I don't identify as anything. I don't like labels. I don't want to put myself in a box, then have to live up to all the stupid stereotypes that come with it.

I don't bother to identify as anything. I'm considered Butch or androgynous by others, usually.

Straight butch women are very rare usually tomboy is as butch as you'll see commonly in straight women, and tomboys are usually in the center of the Butch/Femme scale. It's quite obvious I appear femme, most people assume I am straight.

I "identify" as lipstick, but I'm not really too serious about it. I'm just a girly girl who
wears lots of bright lipstick and loves other girly girls.

I don't know what I would be classified as. My personality says butch but my appearance is pretty androgynous. Kids have asked me if I was a boy, but adults automatically assume I'm just a lesbian.

They aren't as rare as you'd think; they're just invisible since they're less desired by straight men. I happen to know more hard masculine straight women than hard masculine lesbians. Sure, femme lesbians are read as straight and masculine women are read as lesbians, but that's only because of heterosexism and gender roles.

I don't label myself as anything, since I'm just being myself, but if I had to, I guess I would be on the butchier side of things.

I identify as femme, but I'm still not sure if I could be considered a lesbian.
