well.... i thought school cafeteria has janitors that at least spray chemicals on the tables and wipe them....

    maybe he's a germophobe?

you should tell him that his mouth and his digestive system have (good) germs too

Complaining about germs does not make you gay. There is no correlation, and even if there was one, correlation does not imply cause-and-effect.

He could be gay, sure. But I wouldn't read into this too deeply. And I have not known anyone, heterosexual or otherwise, who's complained about germs before, but that doesn't mean anything at all.

EDIT: Even if this is the first time you've seen him complain about it, it does not necessarily mean anything. Perhaps he saw a documentary or something about germs. Perhaps it was an exceedingly random comment.

There could have been many possible catalysts for his behaviour. We may never know...

He could be. But complaining about germs isn't really relevant to whether or not he is. Maybe you're just getting your hopes up.

So, yes, straight people can care about germs. They can even have OCD.

I know plenty of straight guys who are deathly afraid of germs... Didn't know the fear of germs was exclusive to gay men.

Not necessarily. I used to do that, too. It just means you're currently inclined towards being more clean, and are willing to take steps to ensure that for your own peace of mind.

I had a brother who was borderline hypochondriac.

It's too bad we haven't progressed as a society past the point where a man can care about hygiene without having his masculinity or sexual orientation come into question. That said, it sounds like wishful thinking on your part.

I'm not particularly overly worried about germs; does that make me straight?

I think it is OCD, since I'm the same way, just not so severe: getting weirded out eating food prepared by strangers, refusing to use the same utensils right after someone else just got done using them, washing my hands immediately after touching door handles or public keyboards... to name a few.

My younger brother is really afraid of germs, and he's straight. I remember when we were little he used to hate to get dirty. I would be the one running around outside getting all sweaty, playing in the mud and catching bugs, and he would just cry if he got any dirt under his nails. Even now he still won't eat food off of anyone else's plate, even our mom's.

My mentor is a germaphobe. He goes through an obscene amount of hand sanitizer and Lysol at the office. Like... a lot. And he's definitely straight, and also a body-builder.

A comprehensive list of all the indicators that someone is gay or bi

    • They say "I am gay/bi"
    • They are having sex with someone of the same sex
