    17. I am a bit uncomfortable when I see gay couples (not that I see many where I live) but it's mostly 'cos I'm single and jealous. And try to find if someone's gay because I am more uncomfortable if I found someone straight attractive. I tend to look at anything I say, and wonder if I give myself away at all.

    4 - "high-grade non-homophobic."

Would have been rather awkward if I'd scored as high grade homophobic...

Whatever would I say to myself?

    I got a 12.

I was really amazed at the wording of the questions. They sounded as if it was expected that the average person would think along those lines, which were very hateful and nonsensical.

It makes me wonder if the average American who takes this test is expected to be a hate-filled ignoramus.

What's interesting is I think (if I remember correctly) that 56% of people scored as homophobic (or non-homophobic - I don't exactly remember). That's such a large chunk of people who might not be aware of their real feelings! And they get married and have potentially homophobic babies.

What's also interesting is that how many people who are homophobic/not-straight/whatever actually do manage to have families and live a largely hetero life. The question I ask myself is, is it worth it? Do the benefits outweigh the costs?

I'm sure we can open up many more debate questions based on this.

I scored 8, and upon hitting the back button, apparently the "homophobic" answer on prompt 24, "When I meet someone I try to find out if he/she is gay.", was "strongly agree." I'm not sure why. I legitimately do want to know if people I meet are queer because I want to know who's in my family.

Skiff - what do you mean by heterosexual test?

Here is something interesting I was thinking about. This test was created before the following study - that "straight" people who were homophobic got aroused more by gay porn than straight porn. Yet, the chart on the following page says that most homophobic people fall on the straight end of the spectrum.

I like to analyze surveys like this...

I'm confused on these questions. Like 7, "I strongly disagree that I enjoy the company of gay people" would clearly seem homophobic, but to agree almost feels like I'm saying I have a preference towards gay people over others, yet "neutral" is considered more homophobic? I would imagine neutrality on the sexuality of your company should not be "homophobic." And 10, the sexuality of a friend certainly "matters" if you're interested in that friend, homophobic for interest in your friend's sexuality? Same basically goes for 24, if you're interested in someone, yes, finding out if he/she is gay is important. It doesn't seem like a well-suited test for homosexual individuals, themselves.

Also, why is 20 homophobic to agree with??? "20. Homosexual behavior should not be against the law." To get a 0 you have to answer "Strongly Disagree." Strongly believing homosexual behavior should be against the law is not homophobic? That's what is giving you guys the 4 who answered the "non-homophobic" answer to everything. I think they got mixed up with their double negatives.

I got 6, but I stand by my neutrality on question #7 :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:.

It's a sample of questions from a larger survey that was designed to be given to men who identified themselves as heterosexual. At least, that's what I assumed he was going for.

It's not surprising that the people taking it here are all scoring "non-homophobic." Even if we aren't "out" publicly, we at least self identify enough as LGBTQ to be participating in these forums in the first place. :icon_bigg

Thank you, Stoical. I didn't think about that.

I'm still shocked at the number of homophobic people in the results. Not good news for us in the LGBTQ community. Also, societal implications are huge with those results, though the sample size is tiny here. I must say that my own homophobia has probably lessened tremendously since coming out to myself.
