Okay, does anyone else feel like bi invisibility is really tricky? I mean, it's bad enough that most straight people assume everyone is straight unless they see stereotypical behavior or full on making out. But is it even possible to be seen as bi/pan without explicitly stating it?

While we're at it, fuck Glee and its treatment of bisexuality and its homogenization of homosexuality. Overrated mainstream crap.

Fairyfey, yeah, I get what you mean...
I feel like many people think you're either gay or straight. While that's not how it works.
This site, the internet, etc. really opened up my eyes when it comes to sexuality and gender identity. As a kid I used to believe it was either 'this' or 'that' as well, and I just pressed down the feeling that I was neither 'this' nor 'that'.

    i dont watch glee...

as for being bisexual... alot of people dont believe it... they think its either gay or straight.. and some gays dont believe in bisexualism either... they said that we're just covering up the fact that we are gay or straight.. "your either hot or cold not both"

Yeah, it's really annoying. If someone asks me if I like girls, I say yes and they just assume I'm straight. And it just feels so damn awkward explaining everything lol.

    Yeah, I agree.
And when I say I like girls people are like "Ah yes, so you're a lesbian?" I know it's not their fault, but it makes me want to bang my head against a wall. :frowning2:
And I thought about as well being straight as gay, and I came to the conclusion that I'm really a 100% bi, or just "IDGAF-sexual", lol!

Probably doesn't help that a decent number of people who are clearly bisexual (at least in a genetic sense) choose to identify as gay or straight for their own personal reasons.

If I had a nickel for all the guys on Empty Closets who said "yeah I've slept with dozens of women and enjoyed it. Had a marriage or two. I still find women incredibly attractive, and I still want to sleep with them from time to time. But really... I'm gay. At the end of the day, I'm gay." If I had a nickel for all those people, I could fix this country's budget shortfalls.

In terms of their biological orientation... they clearly aren't. They certainly aren't the same kind of gay as my boyfriend--who has never had an erotic thought about women in his lifetime and doesn't understand what female beauty even is. It's fine if they choose to identify as gay--that's not my problem. It's not like bisexuality is morally superior or anything. Just because you can do something doesn't mean that you have to. And I can understand why some people choose to pursue one side of their attractions and let the other side languish--the rollercoaster of attraction can be stressful. Not everyone has the emotional strength to ride it their whole lives. Some are quite content to step off the ride at some point.

The problem is when these people tell the rest of us we should do the same as they did--choose a side basically. I've seen some of that advice going around on this site, and it bothers me quite a lot.
