This Sunday is St Patricks Day, and I don't know about everyone else but I am really excited for it! I'm English but all of my great grandparents were Irish and despite never having been to Ireland, I have always had a fondness for everything Irish!

So this Sunday I will be celebrating in style. I know in England, people who aren't even remotely Irish also take great pride in celebrating. I'm just wondering if people from other parts of the world celebrate St Patricks Day, and if so what will you be doing? And of course I'd also love to know what the Irish people on here will be doing to celebrate?

It's basically just a drinking holiday.

I bought a six pack of Irish Red beer last week, to go with the couple bottles of Guinness stout I've had in my beer fridge for a while. I normally don't have more than one beer in a day, but I'm going to have two or three on St. Patrick's Day.

I drink guinness and get pissed. I also like singing very loudly to irish folk music. My husband used to sing Irish folk in the pubs around Oxford, so I know a lot of Irish folk songs. I also love Guinness.

Guinness didn't work too well the year before last, and I'm more of a hard liquor person. Jameson?
Since I did nothing last year I'm pretty sure for me it's "St. Patrick's Weekend" rather than just one day ; )
Singing very loudly to Irish music started yesterday.

The only Irish whiskey I have in my liquor cabinet is Bushmills. I should get some Jameson, though. Any Bushmills drinkers here?

Well St Patrick's day is my birthday so I usually get together with some friends in an Irish bar somewhere and I get to laugh at their drunken antics (I don't really drink any more). However the bf is being secretive about what we're doing, so it could be that something different is being planned. Exciting!

I read your post about St. Pat's Day. Live in Chicago, go to your Mom's for corned beef and cabbage, Irish soda bread, Baileys with coffee. Man, it just doesn't get any better than that. Almost brought a tear to my eye (really!) That's me a few decades ago. I can still taste that home made soda bread. Relish it. You'll remember these events for the rest of your life and tho older you get the more you appreciate and cherish them. Give your Mom a hug for me.
