I have done some research on this, and have become much more interested in the topic.. With it being that we haven't even had a female president, I think a gay president is a long stretch...:eusa_snoo

"Ever" is a long, long time. Give it enough time and I'm sure we'll have one.

If you mean an openly gay president, it might be a while. But it will almost certainly happen.

If the person doesn't have to be out, there have almost certainly already been gay presidents.

Andrew Jackson was rumored to be gay.

It seems to be that a lot of presidents were rumored to be gay. Which I find pretty interesting, actually.

In the present day, definatly not. I don't think many African and Middle Eastern countries would take the idea of the US, UK, Russia etc having an openly gay head of state. As for the future though, maybe, but I can't see too many people, especially in the U.S.A (South mainly), Nigeria (Death penalties in the North of the Country) , Guyana (Only South American country where it remains illegal) etc voting for an openly gay person ever.

With the growing support for LGBT people, maybe, but I'm not too optimistic on the fact :frowning2:
So probably not in a long time...

No, I think people would go crazy with that idea. I hope I'm wrong though!

I expect that a woman president is a real possibility at this point and it's just been that a woman people want as president hasn't come along at the right time. Eventually I'm sure there will be an openly gay president.

Give it 24 years, we'll have a gay president. Give it 4-8 years, we could have a woman president.

I don't think America will evolve that much to allow an openly gay president..i hate to say it..but there are just some things that will never change and i think this is one of them..i dnt care either way however i think America is set in her ways...so ya

Yes, I do think sometime in the future we will have an lgbt president.

Granted, the first one will probably not be liberal.

In an expanding universe, time is on the side of the outcast. Those who once inhabited the suburbs of human contempt find that without changing their address they eventually live in the metropolis. - Quentin Crisp

It's only a matter of time before the sexuality of a presidential candidate would only be a side-note, a non-issue. Time is on our side.

50-60 years ago, they said the same thing about the notion of a black president.

I think there will be one, just that it won't be in the near future.

Take the fact that we don't even have a woman president yet; having a fully out and gay president is a long stretch from that too. Although I think people that have posted above me have a point: we probably won't have an openly gay president for a while, but that doesn't mean that we haven't had a closeted gay president, either. It can almost certainly happen.

I think there will definitely be an openly LGBT President in the next 20-40 years (give or take some time.) I have a feeling it will be a lesbian, because I'm pretty damn sure Hillary will run in 2016, and she will definitely have a chance. (Let's not make this a debate - I'm just stating something here.) Even if she doesn't, I think a female president will happen, SOON.

That being said, I will add that someone who is LGBT might be involved in a higher rank in the near future. Think of things like the Secretary of State - maybe there will be a position that will showcase how we are normal and how we can do things just the same.

James Buchanan was in a nearly open relationship with William Rufus King. But if we're talking modern times, you're just waiting for the right candidate. I don't see their sexuality per se being that much of an issue even within 20 years or so.
