    Yup that's basically correct.
The first reading/vote is basically to see whether the MPs agree that it is an issue worth debating - just because they voted yes doesn't mean they will support it all the way through. (On the other hand, voting "No" at this point doesn't always mean they'll vote no all the way through either, but usually they will)
However 80 is a pretty significant majority, meaning we can lost 19 supporters and still get it passed. We're optimistic, to say the least :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:.

    New gay marriage laws!!!!

I was so excited to hear the new gay marriage laws in New Zealand getting past the first (and hardest) step. Hopefully the bill goes through and we'll finally have gay marriage!! (!) My best friend (one of them, anyway) said she thought it was terrible. Hopefully I can bring her round.

Hooray for NZ! Hopefully this might convince some of the homophobic fools in our Australian Government to do the same. If not, I might be moving over in a few years  .

Australian MPs should learn something from their Kiwi counterparts...

We've got the second reading happening tonight, so if all goes well this one should pass easily and then we can get to the third and final reading.

It stills needs at least 61 supporting it; out of the 80 that supported it last time, according to this it seems like only one of them isn't going to be supporting it for this reading (although they only asked the 12 that didn't pledge their support for the whole way through).

I love this part with the background music and everyone making snarky comments about it on Twitter. You have no idea how grateful I am for Twitter during these readings.
