On April 20th of this year, Gays, Lesbians, Bisexuals, Transgenders, and their supporters, take a vow of silence for the entire day "to represent the silencing of LGBT students and their supporters." -Wikipedia I'm going to wear a ton of rainbow things that day, openly showing my support for my fellow LGBT people and our supporters. I am going to have my Mother sign a note (you should bring a note to school so they can't make you talk) and I am going to take it to school that day. Notes: -Bring a note signed by a parent to school so they cannot make you talk in class. -Make sure this is okay with your school before doing it. (Though even if they say no, I am going to do it anyway.) -Spread the word so others can know about it and support it. Who else is going to do this?
Ooh, never heard of this before. I shall do it! Frankly, I think my mom'll be quite happy for me to take a vow of silence for the day P:
My school does this. We also have a day of diolague (which was like a week ago) where the freshman have an assembly and students in GSA talked to them about being gay and stuff like that. I agree with the intentions of day of silence, but I feel like people should talk more about the issues. Isn't being quiet about everything the cause of all the violence and tradgedies?
I am wearing my white Day of Silence t-shirt because I am the student organizer for our GSA, and will likely be running a panal or two that day, and because I will also have play rehersal. Next year, I will be able to wear red, and not talk, since I am stepping down as GSA student coordinator at the end of this term.
Nice, I wish my school did that. And I agree that people should talk more about it, but that may stir things up in schools which may be why some schools shy away from the subject. But I love how we have an opportunity to show our support, even though it is with silence.
I'm taking part in this. Since I go to a catholic school though I'm pretty sure we aren't supposed to bring it up much (though we do in social justice class, but not much.) I was planning on answering questions if called on in class, but not talking to friends at lunch or whatever. Also I was going to wear some rainbow at least what I can with a uniform. (Bracelets and painted nails. Ha.
I've already cleared it with the school counselor and most of my teachers. My parents wouldn't support me doing it though. I've also talked my girlfriend and a few of my friends into doing it
It's weird... They did this in my middle school, but it isn't even mentioned at my high school(in the same district)
