I had a thought about sirens. If you don't know, sirens are those sea creatures that take the form of a beautiful woman and sing to charm men and eventually kill them. So, I was thinking about this and: If sirens only work on men, then what about the lesbians? Would it be the same principle, do you reckon? Random question, haha.
Well, despite recent evidence showing a certain amount of cross-gendered skew in gay men and women's brain structures, there are also meta-analyses suggesting that the, how shall we call it..."attraction" mechanisms of gay men are rather similar to that of straight men, and the same with lesbians and straight women. So...I would have to guess that lesbians would be immune and free to escape and/or get close enough to flirt with these Sirens. Hypothetically.
That's a rather good thought, I'd say no, because surely some of the men on the boats were gay and got lured too, sadly however the Sirens were put to rest
I don't see why not? They're just beautiful women with hypnotizing voices, if it doesn't work on a lesbian, then they're not lesbians then are they.
Well, since women in ancient greece tended to not be sailors, I suspect that the people who crafted the myth probably would not have considered it, because their view of gay people was not as seperatist as society is today. a women being a lesbian, for the most part, would be a 'meh, so what? did you hear, Apollo smoted Icar for slaying one of his sacred bulls!!! yah, totally fried his ass... smelled something feirce, but icar's ass always did!!!" I think most modern retellings do say that they dont effect women, so being a lesbian may or may not be a gray area. it depends solely upon what part of a person is effected by the song.
