I like orchestrated music, as well as some video game soundtracks. Most of the music I listen to is just from the Homestuck albums though.

I generally find music with words distracting.

I have THE WORST taste in music. Either Cuban mambo or J-pop for me. Especially Crystal Kay

    Currently, my favourite bands are...

    The Fratellis
    Florence + The Machine
    Neon Trees
    Christina Perri
    Temposhark
    P!nk
    Oomph!
    Kamelot
    Trans-Siberian Orchestra
    Three Days Grace
    Panic! At the Disco

Haha I like a wide variety of things. I just listen to what sounds good to me, no matter what genre it's in or who it's by. I also really like instrumental music, like things off the Touhou collections and by Two Steps From Hell. They help me write.

My favorite music is classical music (Bach, Handel, Beethoven, and Haydn, Brahms) and new age music (Secret Garden, Enya). Depending on my mood, I like to listen to pop/rock and 90s music (gotta love the real stuff :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:).

I love how many threads there are about music. Awesome.

Loads of different genres I listen to, but mostly...
    ...hardcore/metalcore
Bring Me The Horizon / Asking Alexandria / Confide / Blessthefall / Rolo Tomassi / Enter Shikari / Of Mice & Men / While She Sleeps
    ...indie rock stuff:
Foals / Los Campesinos! / Klaxons / Art Brut / Sleigh Bells / School is Cool / Ellie Goulding
    ...the emo stuff
Sleeping With Sirens / Mayday Parade / A Skylit Drive / A Day to Remember / Tonight Alive

I could keep on mentioning band names but these are pretty much the bands I listen to most. Unfortunately I'm not allowed to add my last.fm profile which would show it all ;(

Oh yeah. I can't handle rap. And I HATE Coldplay and Lana del Rey with a passion.

My musical sense is very schizophrenic. I grew up on old country and John Denver (some of which mysteriously migrated to my iPod). Lately, I've been switching between four main playlists: 30 Seconds to Mars, Muse, Jann Arden, and Melissa Etheridge. I also have a 90s mix that I contribute to as I buy secondhand c.d.s from the local bookstore. I'll always have a place in my heart for video game soundtracks, though, especially anything by Nobuo Uemastu and Final Fantasy.

Wow, and to think I was pretty convinced I would be the only one here. I listen to stuff from video games almost exclusively these days. Most people don't know it, but there's a lot of content out there these days. Was just listening to "Small Two of Pieces" from Xenogears.

So I guess it would kind of accurate to say I listen to a little bit of everything too. But they all have share the trait of having been used in a video game in one way or another.

I've got quite a bit of J.S. Bach in my player too.

Some people who favor owning LPs feel that part of the experience of music is also being able to experience a physical copy of it. They like to own LPs because they like to admire the art of the cover, for instance. To be honest, I'm a lot like that. Some albums really have strong cover designs.

I like strange, unknown, indie groups, no particular genre but generally, the weirder or more avant garde the better.

Dogbowl Stephen Tunney is just wonderful. I have loved him for years. He also paints and writes novels. For his first novel Flan he also wrote a musical novel to go with it. It is simply amazing!

I recently discovered a classically trained opera singer who has taken to doing odd presentations, things like singing in her opera style while gargling water and other neat things. Her name is Aurora Josephson if anyone cares to look her up.

I have always loved Negativland, they are kind of experimental style of music, hard to explain, they have had a radio show on KPFA in Berkeley for over 30 years and do all sorts of experimental sounds, they often refer to it as the Universal Media Netweb. They also accept calls and incorporate the callers into the show sometimes, sometimes the callers are simply tolerated.

There are also tons of independent artists in the bay area, some that come to mind are Danny Girl, Jesse Roadkill, Chicken John, Doctor Hal, Puzzling Evidence. I wish I could get to the bay area to see them. Have to find them on the internet for now.

I cannot forget to mention David Rovics. The best troubadour of current events on the planet.

More popular artists I have always loved are:

    Kate Bush
    Nina Hagen
    XTC
    Frank Zappa
    Laurie Anderson
    Suzanne Vega
    Joy Division / New Order
    The Waitresses
Slow Children (my avatar is their first album cover)

Lots more, I am pretty darn picky, but still like a universe full of things.

Thanks for this thread. I just looked up what Danny Girl and Jesse Roadkill are doing and found this new group they are in called The Bay Area Derailleurs. Too fun!
