Does anyone have any home remedies to help ease the itching and flakes that come with a dry scalp? I'm too broke to get the dandruff shampoo -_-
One thing I've done is to stop washing my hair everyday. I usually just wash it every other day or so. That helps keep all of the natural oils from being stripped away.
Dry scalp has two causes- it can be a problem with dryness or it can be a fungal infection. Usually the answer to both situations is a change in your shampoo. If the problem is dryness, then changing to a moisturizing, low-detergent shampoo will help retain oils in the hair and scalp. If the problem is dryness and flakiness, then it's often a fungal infection of the scalp. A dandruff shampoo used 1-2 times per week usually does help. These cost about $10-20 per bottle and the bottle should last you for 6-12 months. There are also some home remedies like Listerine, vinegar, beer, tea tree oil, etc that some people swear by. But more than likely, switching shampoo will be your best bet.
The best way to get rid of this dry scalp is the massage of oil. Use olive oil and mustard oil because they are the best when to minimize the dandruff and dryness of the scalp.
Do you have patches of dry, similarly itchy skin anywhere else on your body? It could be psoriasis, in which case it would be wise to splurge for an OTC medicated shampoo. Also, it's really important not to scratch your head!
Thanks for the help everyone! I'm trying a lot of the oil remedies and bought this shampoo from Neutrogena that's for dandruff! Hmm...I do have a lot of skin problems. And its so hard not to scratch! Lol
