It really offends me when it's used to mean rubbish or generally something other than homosexual, except maybe things like a rainbow unicorn.
With me, it's not the words someone uses, it's the intention behind them. But if someone says it, I usually say something like, "No it's not, it's crap." But I'm not really offended unless I know or think they're homophobes.
Honestly, I don't care. I don't use it, but I don't really seem to notice when other people use it. I can remember exactly one time when it bothered me, but I'm just largely indifferent to it. Of course, as it does offend some people, I don't think it should be used (at least in a negative sense).
I don't get offended when someone say that's gay. I would be a hypocrite if I did. I use it a lot to mean it is stupid/crappy/just why. Probably more than some of my straight friends and they like to point that out. If it was used to be degrading to someone then that would be a different story but I have only run into that once.
Well.. depends on who said it. Random people and friends I don't really care. But my family it bugs me a lil.
If I buy socks, suspenders, tshirt, shoelaces and hat, all rainbow, and the person i was with said "that's so gay" I wouldn't be offended. What gets under my skin about the comment though, is it's being used as a statement of something idiotic, stupid, weird etc, so my thought process is that I am being called stupid, idiotic and weird. I understand that this is usually not what is meant, but I can't help but think it.
every time I hear those words being used I ignore it, a little bit after wards I get mad. I have a theory that homophobic people are actually GLBT but are "locked" in the closet. but if i hear it once or twice I just get annoyed and ignore it. but after that I get angry
Well, I used to get really irritated when people would say it, but not so much anymore. It's just such a common phrase that getting mad every time someone said it seemed a bit pointless after a while. Although I do usually tell people to knock it off when they go around calling people fags or dykes.
It does bother me a little bit, but I'm not gonna go crying home to mama about it. Now at my old school where I heard the phrase every 5 minutes? Yes, it did bother me greatly. I wish some people would at least treat it as they would a curse word instead of throwing it around like the word "stupid".
im not, if they are talking about a person, they are usually right anyways, it's the persons reaction while saying it that puts me off or gets me offended, example if they are saying it in a derogatory put down, or arrogance etc.
It depends on the context, if it is used to describe something derogatory then yes I think it's offensive, I can't think of any slang words used for any other groups to describe negative things. At the end of the day saying that's so gay in a negative sentence is saying being gay is a bad thing. I don't get hugely angry about it but I think it is wrong.
