    Windows 7, and I couldn't be happier.
I nearly switched to Mac after A) I had a terrible last few months with my old Vista laptop and B) I was impressed with it after I used them in a photo class to do a lot of editing.
However, when it came down to it, I gave Windows one more chance, and I'm sure glad I did.

I use Arch too! Why? Well, a little bit of sadomasochism, and a little bit of "hipsterism" =D
It's always giving me some trouble (I have a netbook, so I got a couple of incompatibility issues) but it's lightweight and simple (not easy, but simple), and even the troubles are kind of fun to solve =D Except when they happen when I really need to do something else, but, life has this things, right? :icon_bigg

Vista, because it came with my laptop, it is compatible with some of my old computer games (old Lego games ftw ), and I can't be bothered changing to another OS.

Oh cool! I like FreeBSD, just really never had the time to set it up properly. Solaris is pretty awesome, its a shame that Oracle discontinued OpenSolaris.

Windows. Because its simple, its the most popular and has the greater compatibility.

I've actually had an easier time with FreeBSD than anything else that wasn't GUI-based for setup. FAR easier than Arch, Gentoo, etc.

Solaris for desktop use (at my work, it's used on servers) is kinda pointless. It does have a packing system, but compared to BSD ports or apt, it's not as good. That and pretty bad hardware compatibility on non-SPARC boxes.

Oh yeah, and BSD has ZFS. Linux doesn't. They're wasting their time with BTRFS.

For personal use, OS X. There's a reason Linux is less than 2% on the desktop.

On the family laptop: Vista - it takes ages to boot, is now really slow and my dad hates it. But it is partly a games machine so it needs windows. I would set up a dual-boot, but it's not mine so I don't really want to. My desktop: Windows XP for games and Office, which I think is infinitely better than LibreOffice or OpenOffice, but I have Ubuntu on it as well for web browsing and running a Minecraft server.

Windows 7, since I'm a PC gamer and I'm not going to:
    • Shell out for Apple's proprietary dump--er, "hardware"
    • Try to force things to work under WINE, especially those games with extra-stringent anti-cheats (Vindictus, anything that uses X-Trap)
Linux is fine and dandy and all (I dual-boot), but it's more of a hobby-type installation than something I would use as a primary OS just based on the things I do on a computer.

    I currently use Windows 7.

I was previously an Ubuntu user and as a result, I became one of those annoying fanboys. But I have to use Windows for school (the IDE I program in is Windows-only and I need MS Access), so I dual booted until I realized that I preferred the software on 7 than on Ubuntu. I don't hate Linux, but I can't use it as a primary OS any more. I still use it in Virtualbox on occasion.

And besides, I absolutely loathe WINE. I much prefer running programs in their native environment.

I use Windows 7 and skipped Vista, always used XP 'till W7. I just am accustomed to it and it's user friendly, so yeah.

As a complete computer nerd... I use pretty much everything:

    At home:
Laptop: MBP - Mac OS X (With Windows and Linux VMs for when needed) [for now, looking to replace eventually]
Desktop: Windows 7 (and VMs for Ubuntu, Windows XP, 7, 8, whatever else is needed)
Server: Ubuntu Server 10.04 LTS (with various Windows Server VMs)
    Firewall/Router: FreeBSD (Pfsense)
Phone: HTC Thunderbolt - Android "Gingerbread" (rooted, of course)
Tablet: Nook Color - Android "Gingerbread" (rooted, of course) [For now]
TV: Logitech Revue - Android "Honeycomb" (rooted, of course) [For now]

    At work:
Workstations: Both Windows XP and Ubuntu Desktop (my workstations aren't really up-to-date, so no Win7 yet)

I think that covers most everything I use regularly.

XP! I've had many chances to "upgrade" to Vista, but I wouldn't let my dad do it

If I couldn't use XP anymore for some reason, I'd probably start using some kind of Linux.

Well, the computer I'm using now has Vista Home Premium. It's not the greatest (the OS, I mean), but I tolerate it because it runs the games I like, and because I've been using Windows almost exclusively since the mid-90s.
