jsmurf: I have never listened to Beethoven's Russian, Polish or Irish folk songs. Thanks for posting them. They are great!
Okay, how about a fugue by Chopin? Ashkenazy plays Chopin Fugue in A minor, Op.posth.P3 No.2 - YouTube
My three favorite classical pieces are In the Hall of the Great Mountain King, Fur Elise and Moonlight Sonata
My pleasure. I have come across it only a couple months ago. Most interesting to hear a fugue by Chopin. I wish he had written a symphony as well. Hi Steve, Thanks for that link. Glad you mentioned Trifonov. I first saw him at The Interantional Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competiton. He took 3rd place and also received an award for best performance of mazurkas. I really enjoyed his playing. You can still watch most of his performances on the Competition's website. Here's Daniil playing Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto:
Yes, the piece is rather reserved compared to his other work. As for a symphony, at least we have his piano concertos.
You're quite welcome. He also placed first in the Arthur Rubinstein Competition in Tel Aviv, and most of those performances are available online too.
The great duel scene from Eugene Onegin, recorded circa 1936: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gv3NR1ZpVGE&feature=related The virtuous, pure-hearted Lensky is about to be fatally shot by his childhood friend, now arch-rival by dint of bitter insult Eugene Onegin.
I used to listen to classical music all the time more to my mothers liking not mine she believed that when she was pregnant that classical music would help to make a smart baby.... HAHA oh mommy.... HAHA anyways I don't listen to it anymore if I had the option when I was younger I wouldn't have. I used to like piano but I could not play I had lessons and I couldn't do it I didn't like it and I don't work we'll with things I don't like doing. But sometimes ill listen to classical music to calm down to
If you liked it, I really recommend that you have a go at the whole opera. I just finished watching it . It is available on youtube (who knows for how long).
