A friend asked me the difference between love and being in love, I always thought it was just an excuse people used to avoid commitment because whenever I heard it it was used like this.

"I love you, but I'm not in love with you."

So, while we were discussing this I began to think.
Being IN LOVE is ultimately selfish. It demands that one be devoted to a single person, who may fully occupy one's mind and heart, to the exclusion of all else. People you love still leave room for other things, but the is not the same for someone you're in love with.
