Apperently, a software programmer has created a web applet that will analyze chunks of your writing, and try to discern your influences. I tried it out, both with my story-telling based worked, and my college essays. I don't trust it that much, because it uses word choices mostly to define which of the writers the program knows your most influenced by, which seems silly.

One college paper read like Ursula Le Guien, of Wizards of Earthsea. Cant judge that, as I have never read one of her books. A second one that I did for a dramatic literature class says I write like Stephen King. A third one had me writing like H.P. Lovecraft.

For my fiction, each section of story I tried said I write most like Dan Brown. I guess that means I will sell 80million copies+, and piss off the catholic church... for the royalties of 80million copies, I am game, I guess.

The website for the applet is IWL.me if you want to try it out.

That or YouTube personality Dan Brown :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: lol.

    ----------

OK so first stuff I put in said I write like David Foster Wallace, who's book Infinite Jest was listed as one of the Top 100 all-time greatest novels in the last 100 years in Time Magazine.

The second one, which was really pathetic piece of my work in my opinion, gave me Stephenie Meyer which pisses me off. Sure I'll be rich, but with a personal feeling of self-loathing....

But the final piece, the one that I basically wrote about living my life, a submission piece for my Creative Writing course, that basically I just detailed about how it is like living with autism and such, came up with George Orwell, which surprises me. Apparently his work "marked by keen intelligence and wit, a profound awareness of social injustice, an intense, revolutionary opposition to totalitarianism, a passion for clarity in language and a belief in democratic socialism." And is also "Considered perhaps the twentieth century's best chronicler of English culture"...

So go me for the last one that came from the heart.

i entered my first AP paper from last year and it came up with Shakespeare. O_O i don't think that's possible. anyways, i entered numerous other papers i had written my last two years in high school and it came up with JD Salinger, Dan Brown (three times), Arthur C Clarke, Rudyard Kipling, and HP Lovecraft (three times). I then entered a poem i wrote this year and it came up with Kurt Vonnegut. quite interesting lol.

Yeah I put it in too. Stephenie Meyer. That's a laugh riot. I put this in:
"See Spot run. See Spot fetch. Run Spot run." and I got Robert Louis Stevenson whoever he is lol.

    ----------

OMG I wrote this: "I love Edward and only Edward. I'm not going with Jacob despite him being the smarter choice because I'm weak and stupid." and I got Meyer lol. Amazing.

I decided to give it a go. I found an old Talespin fanfiction that I wrote, pasted it in, and got...Rudyard Kipling. And since he wrote the Jungle Book, from whence three characters of Talespin spring (Baloo, Louie, and Shere Khan), I'd say I did a good job.

The opening of my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle fanfic was like Chuck Palahniuk, but the climax was more like George Orwell.

I'll just say I write like me.

I tried out an essay I wrote for AP English and got Oscar Wilde.
I thought it was cute and kinda fun. Then I put in 5 more essays and got 5 different people. It's a fun little toy but obviously nothing to be taken seriously.

I got Leo Tolstoy. Doesn't surprise me too much, he is my literary hero, I've been a fan since I picked up War and Peace at 13. I also got Edgar Allen Poe, and Vladimir Nabokov.

Cory Doctorow (x2) and David Foster Wallace so far. I'll dig around on my computer for stuff from the past school year.

Also, who is Cory Doctorow? I've never heard of the guy before this site told me about him. Is he any good? =P
