Which is why I haven't even thought of starting GOT at all, book or show. No patience for waiting, I'll start a series when the end is in sight. I'm waiting for a few "last" books in a series, one for a few years now, another... more than a decade... so, no to series that aren't done yet. :eusa_naug

Anyhoo, just to note: I'm a King fan but for sure I don't always love his work. Mr. Mercedes, though, I thought was really fun since it's a different genre for King to write in (straight up police procedural kind of thing). It does get into some disturbing moments but... had to keep reading! Also some coincidences that are kinda laughable buuuuuuut whatever. The sequel was fun too, different but some of the characters come back, and the way it ended... well, vintage King territory, and now that darn wait! Noticed, though, that King doesn't do gay characters very well. There's always something... mean? about how he writes them.

Haven't tried any Hiassen yet.... I really liked Life of Pi and only after some time passed was I okay with that narrative wrench it threw in... 'Salem's Lot was a long ago read for me but I remember liking it, though I think I remember feeling it wasn't as "vampirey" as I thought it was going to be. Early King has a different feel than later King.

Here's to reading several books at once (I'm working through 4 myself atm)
 <--- closest thing to a toast emoticon

Landline by Rainbow Rowell. It was pretty good but definitely not as good as her other books. (!)

The last book I read was called room. It's an amazing book and it's told from the perspective of a five year old, which makes it even more interesting. It's about this little boy and his mother, who was abducted at 19, and their life inside this little garden shed that he keeps them in. I know it sounds like pretty heavy material but it ends well.

Re-finished Renegade Magic by Robin Hobb, and now I'm re-reading Rothfuss' The Wise Man's Fear.

    The last book I read that wasn't a re-read was Robin Hobb's Fool's Quest. *_* I loved it.

The Sorrows of Young Werther - actually rereading it. I read it first when I was a teen and was fascinated by the romantic story. Reading it again as an adult makes me notice quite different parts of the story (e.g. Goethe's thoughts about life in general). Curious indeed.

The last book I read was Donald's Barthelme's novel The King.

The novel transports King Arthur and his Knights into the theatre of the Second World War and has them fight against Germany and its allies. The novel is hilarious, and I really enjoyed reading it. Bartheleme fused medieval with modern warfare brilliantly, and drove the message of absurdity and cruelty home quite well.

I loved this novel! The book I'm currently reading is the Fellowship of the Ring. Re-reading it because it's been quite awhile since I last did.

Last book I read was The Help. I liked it better than the movie. Worth reading!

I read "A thousand Miles to Freedom" by Eunsun Kim yesterday. It's about a girl and her family and their struggle to escape North Korea. I saw it in the bookstore when I was in to get something else and since I read another book about a guy who escaped from a prison camp in North Korea about a year ago. A book which was very insightful, I felt like I just had to read this one too.

I'm sitting here reading the long poem Sir Orfeo in the Norton Anthology of English literature. I'm reading it in Middle English, to which it was translated around the end of the 13th century from the Breton language.

I read it previously in a beautiful translation by J.R.R. Tolkien. I believe I'm going to write a genre study of the poem for my first literature paper of the semester.

Last book I read was The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck, it took me a bit to get into it but I ended up enjoying it a lot. Didn't like the ending a ton, but it was well worth the read.

Oh, and I've just started Brave New World by Aldous Huxely

The last book I finished was "The Picture of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde.

Today I started reading "The Trial" by Franz Kafka.
