Just completed The House of the Seven Gables a little while ago. This was my second Hawthorne novel, after Blithedale Romance, and think I liked it more [though the latter could use a re-read at some point.]

Fan of Gothic/Dark Romanticism fiction?

Reading The Good Soldier Svejk by Jaroslav Hasek, at the moment. The book is a satire and depicts the uselessness of war.

Actually no, or at least not especially. Just a fan of Hawthorne, as well as trying to read more pre-twentieth cent. literature in general.

While I don't know much about it, I've heard of that novel before. How are you liking it so far?

I read Paper Towns by John Green today. Because my reading list was driving me insane and I needed to read a book I love.

The Satanic Verses. I'm trying to read every book on the top 25 most banned books list. Ive already read To Kill a Mockingbird and A Clockwork Orange, reading Leaves of Grass and trying to obtain American Psycho.

I'm liking it a lot actually. It's hilarious. The novel is about a soldier, Svejk, who gets drafted into World War I, but never gets to the front lines, thanks to his endless ways of getting into trouble, while trying to get there.

Neither one's a book, but since I'm taking a, temporary, break before starting my next book:

    - Roger Malvin's Burial, Hawthorne
    - Self-Reliance, Emerson

A Single Man by Christopher Isherwood. It was really good. A bit depressing, but it was still a good book.

Read another Hawthorne short story yesterday, Egotism; or, the Bosom-Serpent. It was a bit unsettling how, in a way, it seemed applicable to my own circumstances. In any case, would like to read some more before starting my next novel.

Glad you enjoyed, if that's the right word (Haha,) it. I've been interested in reading this and, if I'm not mistaken, have read it's considered one of Isherwood's best works.

The last book I read was for my English class, Beowulf.

My next book is hopefully still at the library, Boyfriend Material.
