Oh my god, that makes me so sad :frowning2:.

I don't think any fires are close to me at the moment, the idea of it though is pretty scary, I've been thinking about it all night.

I wish i could donate blood - they're asking for as much as possible because lots of people need it.

This is soo sad. I am tearing up just writing about this. So many people have lost their lives protecting their properties or trying to escape in their cars. Many animals have also died in the infernos and entire towns have been completely destroyed (Kinglake and Marysville). I feel so terrible for the survivors who have lost loved ones or worse, still cannot get in contact with their friends and families.

I have a very close friend who lives just outside Kinglake. Thankfully, she and her family are all ok and managed to save their property with the exception of some outlying sheds.

The temperature on Saturday reached 46.4 degrees C (116 degrees F) in Melbourne with ferocious winds that have only fuelled this tragedy further. There are still dozens of fires burning out of control across the state.

    Please stay safe everyone.

Emergency Services are saying that there are still many dead yet to be found (burnt out homes and cars as yet not discovered). They are talking of a probable 170 death toll.

Glad to hear that our Vic members who have reported in are OK.

I saw another report this afternoon. I hope the winds die down soon. Its ironic I saw that there was flooding in Queensland.

I'm thinking of all you southern aussies. I travelled round Victoria a few years ago and I imagine those eucalyptus trees are natural firewood. There are some sick arsonists out there...the news here said that they would be charged with murder if they get caught.

I thought that I would post some images so that you could get some idea of the horror that these poor people must have faced.

They are now predicting that the death toll will double to 200 people. It is so awful. I got in contact with my close friend and she is ok, but shaken. She was essentially home alone as her parents were travelling through the Northern territory. Her sister arrived to help her protect the property, which must have been a huge relief. She told me that it doesn't feel like home any more. The trees sound different, the house is making strange noises, the whole area smells horrible. She was beyond lucky. Her family friend still cannot find their father and they are very worried that he may not have made it out alive. I hope they are ok.

This article has a couple of quotes in it that I think should be shared.

    :frowning2:

Until now, Ash Wednesday was Australia's biggest bushfire disaster in recent history.

It is absolutely sickening to think that someone would even contemplate lighting fires in these sorts of conditions.

Check out my post on the last page.

Bendigo's been lucky in comparison to a few towns. Kinglake was basically wiped off the map, along with Marysville. Beechworth has a nasty blaze around it at the moment; here's to hoping they have a little more luck.

    hey all!

so everyone here is hearing about how victoria is being destroyed by the fire storms.

so, as many of us here have loved ones in the danger areas and were all hoping that they survive, lets do all we can to help the victims of the fire storm ravaging victoria.

    what can we do:
    • donate blood with the red cross
    • donate money to the red cross
    • donate second hand clothes in good condition
    • donate non perishable food stuffs (canned goods etc.)
    • donate toys, books, pet food etc.
    • organise for your school to set up a bushfire appeal with all proceeds and donations going to the red cross
    • have a gold coin free dress day with money going to red cross
    • get your workplace involved

the possibilities are endless so use you imagination and get involved to help anyone you can

please note: further away from victoria, money donations are preferred so that the money can be transferred quickly and will get to where it is needed as soon as possible
