How Was 2008 For You?

1. The biggest change in your life this year?
Eh, there wasn't anything really.

2. What did you do over the summer?
Just hung around. Tried to hang out with friends that aren't really friends. The end of July and the beginning of August was the bes though with the carnival with Kayla and Water park with Hilary.

3. How were relationships with boyfriends/ girlfriends?
Good for the most part. I'm with James.

4. What news story sticks in your mind the most from 2008?
Um... just the one when my cousin got killed and I know the person who did it.

7. Did you make any new years resolutions and if so, did you stick to them?
Wanted to lose weight. <_< Didn't stick to it. Other then one week where I lost like 15 lbs and I have no idea why.

Nothing really. Just really surprised myself I have been able to keep a relationship this long

Myself. For being able to be the better person in most situations.

Not really. Just stuff I already knew. Has to do with promises and trust.

XD My life is full of stupid incidents. Like the time I didn't know where the "cliff" ended and I fell off it into a sand dune. Lmao.

16. What things do you appreciate most in your life at the moment?
My relationship with my parents, friends, and James.

17. What are your plans for xmas/ new year?
I was with Family for Christmas. New years eve i'm having a "party" and New Years day i'll be with my family.

18. Are you making any new years resolutions for 2009? What do you hope will be different?
To start going to the gym again. And to not trust people as easily. And learn to say no.

I think mine were to lose wieght and come out to my family and close friends. I did lose weight, and I came out to my family, but not my friends.

Hmm....probably two of my uncles; one for surviving cancer and kidney disease, one for donating his kidney to the other.

Not really...Some were re-emphasized, maybe....

Coming out.

Yeah. I went on a 'date' with a girl from Japan. Definately never thought I'd do that.

14. What is your happiest memory from the year?

I dunno....meeting my cousin's gf put me in a good mood for weeks...Also, the night of Obama's victory in the Iowa caucuses and his election on November 4th. Those were exciting days.

15. What was your most stupid incident (drunk stories would be good!)?

Sorry, no drunk stories; I don't drink. But...the stupidest thing I can think of was when I almost got a friend and I lost....In a town both of us know perfectly well. Never rely on me for directions.

16. What things do you appreciate most in your life at the moment?

My family.

Not a lot. Spending time with family most of the time.

Yes, the big thing I want to change is that I want to be out to everyone.

8. It was a good year, did a lot of new things, met a lot of new people, got closer to some people, and started coming out.

I moved from Dallas to Austin. The change has done me a lot of good. I was not at all happy in Dallas.

2. What did you do over the summer?

Worked my ass off. I was working on a poorly managed time critical project a work. I had about 2 straight months of 70+ hour weeks with several 80+ hour weeks.

3. How were relationships with boyfriends/ girlfriends?

There were none.

4. What news story sticks in your mind the most from 2008?

I watched the Senate vote of the bank bailout on CSPAN. I will never forget that. It was the most interesting and sicking thing I have ever seen.

I'm not up on modern music. How ever my theme song for the year was Pink Floyd's "Lost for Words"

Just to complete my degree, which I did.

8. What are you most proud of personally this year (i.e.- something you have done)?

I graduated college with a Bachelors of Science in Software Engineering.

10. Did you have to learn any hard life lessons in the past 12 months?

I have started learning how to deal with the corporate world.

11. Have you had any life- changing experiences in 2008?

Yes, I started the coming out process. I came out to my self in early November and for the first time in a long time I actually look forward to the future.

I went into a gay sex shop. That was a trip, and I enjoyed it. I never imagined I would ever set foot in a place like that.

13. Did you gain any new qualifications?

Yes I got a B.S. in Software Engineering.

14. What is your happiest memory from the year?

The day I found out my degree was conferred and that college was finally behind me.

15. What was your most stupid incident (drunk stories would be good!)?

I blew my top and threatened to punch someone at work.

16. What things do you appreciate most in your life at the moment?

That I am gay. It may be different but it is just so awesome.

17. What are your plans for xmas/ new year?

Spending time with family and installing new shocks on my car.

18. Are you making any new years resolutions for 2009? What do you hope will be different?

Yes, how ever I am switching to 3,6,12 month plan system. The overall theme is to take control of my life and to get what I want. I am entering a new phase of my life, which I have titled "Coming back to life" after the Pink Floyd song.

I rate it a 5. It has been a busy year with lots of changes and at one point I was not sure I would make it.

I hope so. I still have a long way to go and I think I have a lot to contribute to the community.

Fathers are gonna be there forever, whether they believe ins ame-sex marriage or not.

The summer retreat, in which I heard many sad stories, and where I told my own coming out story to 100+ people.

Protest in front of people and be in the Crucible and audition for Earnest In Love!

More acting experience!

Coming out to a certain guy and my birthday and august 26th.

I fell out of love with my long time high school sweet heart and fell in love with the most amazing guy anyone could ask for.

Went to the beach a lot and hung out with my man. I met some new friends and I was the Maid of Honor in my best friends wedding.

One ended and another began, I am very happy in my relationship with my current boyfriend right now.

I don't believe I made a resolution this past year but I am definately making a few for this coming year to work on.

I am proud that I moved on from my ex boyfriend, that was a very unhealthy relationship. I am also proud I have made so many new friends this year, I can finally do things I have been wanting to do and be myself.

I am most proud of my boyfriend, he is finally starting to blossom into the person he has always wanted to be and I am glad I get to see it and experience it with him.

No but a few years ago I did, it was a nightmare in the process but now that I know what I know, I am a much better person.

Life changing... Well I might have begun my life with my life partner, we shall see what the future holds

Actually yes, I never thought I would be able to get over my first love, my high school sweet heart... but I did and I am glad I did

The time I spent with my friends and family, those are always the happies (and saddest but you know what I mean lol)

I guess when I got drunk for my boyfriends 21st birthday, it was controlled and responsible but there was some pretty funny shit going on that night lol

My boyfriend. I love him to death. My friends. I would never be the person I am without them. My family. I am thankful for them loving me for who I am and ignore almost every flaw lol.

For Christmas my boyfriend and I went to Las Vegas to visit some of my family and friends. And for new years of course there is going to be a party where me and some of my friends get drunk and do stupid stuff for the new year... ugh and then I am going to the Rose Parade with my boyfriend and his family. fun fun fun!

Yes. I hope to fully strengthen my legs so I can do the things I love again. I also hope to finally move out and get my own place, possibly with my boyfriend and/or a couple of friends.

I worked my ass off at my new job (out of sales and into tech, yay!!), and got to go to my first Pride... in San Francisco! Nothing like starting off big...

All over the place! This year saw everything from, well, "sowing my oats" in some um, random ways (I've been a bad boy!), to casual dating, to meeting my boyfriend and moving in together.

The forward momentum of humanity with the Obama presidential win. The backward momentum of humanity with the failure of Prop 8 and the increased hatred of a minority group.

Gloria Allred, Gavin Newsom, and everyone else with access to the masses who stand up against bigotry and religion-fueled hatred. Special notice goes to Keith Olberman for the most amazing public opinion about us queers that I think any straight man could give.

Yes, that some things about a person you just CANNOT change. And that unfortunately there IS a such thing as "the one that got away".

Two: coming out, and finding that I have a passion for activism and standing up for my beliefs.

All my friends, and my sons. My health and the fact that I look so much younger than I am! It's my secret weapon, lol...

1. The biggest change in your life this year?

Well, I turned 18, which means I no longer go into bars furiously pleading with the powers that be that I don't get IDed. Plus, I came out to a couple of grandparents, as well as unwittingly being outed to the whole Mom's side of the family by an Aunt who we're no longer on speaking terms with (and happily barely anyone else is either ). And I became first a Chat Mod, and then upgraded to a Forum Mod on here! (I still don't know just why, as even Paul himself has said, I'm far from eligible for Responsible Person of the Year Award. :roflmao

2. What did you do over the summer?

Got stinkingly drunk as a Skunk in France. And amazingly passed my AS Levels. And then got stinkingly drunk after that as well.

3. How were relationships with boyfriends/ girlfriends?

Offline, a little fumble here and there, but hardly anything amounting to even what people might call a relationship, not even a fully fledged fling. Online though, I got married! (!)

4. What news story sticks in your mind the most from 2008?

No on 8 - I can't remember feeling angrier at Mormons. Before, I just kinda considered them a little weird, with far too many children but overall harmless. How wrong I was.

5. Favourite song from the year?

"I'm not your Fwiend, Buddeh!" Remix - That particular South Park episode had me howling with laughter. The fanmade remix quickly became my ringtone and always puts a smile on my face when it comes up on iPod shuffle.

Overall artist this year has to beeeee... Korpiklaani. Me and a friend went to see them in concert not too long ago, and we had the time of our lives

Get the grades needed to go to Uni. And so far, things are looking good

8. What are you most proud of personally this year (i.e.- something you have done)?

Getting an offer from Northampton University. I know, I know, it's not a Red brick Uni, it's not the best around, but they actually want me at their Uni, and at the end of the day, if I manage to walk out of Uni with a good degree; a degree is a degree, whatever Uni it is.

9. Who are you most proud of (can be a famous or non- famous person)?

My sister; she's actually beginning to come round to the idea of me being gay, she even allowed herself to say "Civil Partnership" the other week. It may not sound like much, but if you knew my stubborn homophobe of a sister, you'd be impressed too.

10. Did you have to learn any hard life lessons in the past 12 months?

Even relatives that you thought you knew can stab both you and your Mother in the back. And through backstabbing and snide behaviour, you manage to alienate yourself from all the sane people around you. And even though some people will quite easily stab you in the back, there are others who will turn away from them and surprise you by taking your side.

11. Have you had any life- changing experiences in 2008?

Honestly? Not really, as explained above, I turned 18 recently, which is great. I'm applying for Uni, which is tiring, but nothing I wasn't expecting. There was the whole thing with my aunt (the backstabbing incident as explained in the last question) which really fucked me and mom up for a few weeks as said bitch of an aunt caused havoc by outing me rather snidely to every family member, but it all worked out okay, with an uncle coming forward and giving me a pat on the back, and nobody talking to my aunt anymore. But no, nothing that's REALLY changed anything in my life. We moved in my mom's boyfriend's cat in Easter, so the real difference this year is having two cats in the house instead of one.

Again, not really. Everything seems rather typically me.

Christmas was exceptionally good this year. A great morning with parents and parents' partners, a nice few presents, a spectacular christmas dinner, a relaxing Christmas evening, and most specifically, no Christmas fallouts!

Have a big party, then attempt to take my Driving Theory test on the 2nd (ulp!)

I resolute to keep my room clean, to try and not let things bug me so much and to start reading some more classic books. Except Jane Austen; reading her stuff makes me want to gouge my eyes out with screwdrivers.

Meh, it's been a good run with a few downs, mostly pretty goo though, I'd say a 7.

Hopefully. I've stuck around here for one year, I want to try and reach a second.

 

1. The biggest change in your life this year?
Coming to EC. I'm not kidding, this place has totally changed my life, and my outlook on said life.

2. What did you do over the summer?
Went back home to the UK, as per usual, met up with various friends, went to Scotland for a bit to climb with my family, and I went to Cyprus with Rosina Chicita at the end of it.

3. How were relationships with boyfriends/ girlfriends?
Non-existent

4. What news story sticks in your mind the most from 2008?
Baby P's trial, I didn't know anything about the case until I heard about it then.

5. Favourite song from the year?
Five Years Time, by Noah and the Whale. It's my new happy song ^_^

Not that I can distinctly remember, I'm afraid

8. What are you most proud of personally this year (i.e.- something you have done)?
Probably when I got a merit in my grade 5 oboe exam As well as the A* in my French GCSE
9. Who are you most proud of (can be a famous or non- famous person)?
A friend of mine who has worked tirelessly to make his name known. He's now a youtube celebrity, and more and more people are getting into his music every day. He's amazing (and yes, I am completely in love with him XD)

10. Did you have to learn any hard life lessons in the past 12 months?
Yeah, I had to learn that people leave sometimes, and that it's not purposefully done to make my life miserable, it's just one of those things. I also learned that there are so many different possibilities of things that could happen, and there's no point wallowing in despair over something that could've happened but didn't; I should just carry on.

11. Have you had any life- changing experiences in 2008?
I found out that I had an identical twin sister, but she died ten weeks before we were due to be born. As I always used to go on about twins when I was little, and have imaginary twin sisters and everything, I've very recently become much more spiritual, and am more open to the concept of my sister's spirit still being near me.

12. Did you do anything you never thought you would do?
I made out with someone on a deckchair for an hour and a bit. I honestly never thought I'd do that. I also paraglided XD

13. Did you gain any new qualifications?
GCSEs in French and Science, as well as grade 5 oboe and grade 7 piano.

14. What is your happiest memory from the year?
Walking around London with a truly...perfect, young gentleman. Previously mentioned in this survey.
15. What was your most stupid incident (drunk stories would be good!)?
Probably getting drunk at my school's winter social and making out with a guy I'd just met, for everyone to see XD

My friends, EC (particularly Ben, Rosina, Lucy, Tyler and Sean, but there are loads of other people who I love here ^_^) and non-EC.

I just hope that I can gain a bit more self-confidence this year, and can see myself in a more complimenting light. I also hope that my friends this year remain my friends, so I'm making a resolution to be much more agreeable this year, as well as more approachable and less intimidating. XD

19. How do you rate 2008 on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being the worst and 10 being the best)?
I'll be honest, I've had better years. This year's taught me what it's like to have things genuinely not go my way, and that I need to learn to do things for myself. It was hard a lot of the time, but there's one thing that made this year the best year of my life. Don't know what it is? You're on it right now. 10.

yes, that no matter how much you bust your ass, you can't satisfy everyone (my dad) so, having said that, everything i achieve or do now, will be for my own satisfaction.

I didn't come out to anyone this year, darn, but I am finally going somewhere with my life

Cried about how I f***ed up my exams. I went away to Paris for a week, first holiday I've had in 8 years

I kissed a girl (total shock for me, and not the direction I want to go in). Besides that, nothing

Obama winning, credit crunch, there was that bird that kept stealing crisps from a shop, I don't have a memory for news

Fleet Foxes - White Winter Hymnal is my current favourite. I can't be bothered remembering other songs right now

I wanted to learn guitar, I still don't have a guitar so that'll just have to carry over to this year. I basically just made a 'stop being a miserable sook' resolution, and I've made progress with that

Graduated! Woo Hoo! Got onto a teaching course! Get in!

My best friend who has had a difficult year, and my brother for doing really well with everything

I learnt to try and enjoy what I've got while I've still got it. That's not really a hard life lesson though

No, not many experiences in 2008

I'm quite shy and uncomfortable about talking about myself and opening up to people, so being able to talk to a therapist about my dark dark past and being able to get on a teaching course and do some proper teaching to proper people, I never imagined I could do that

13. Did you gain any new qualifications?
Just a BSc (with Honours) in Maths and Physics, which I don't really give a shit about, but it got me onto my teaching course so... yes

14. What is your happiest memory from the year?
Not many memories, I've had some good times with friends who I now don't see as much, so those memories sadden me

15. What was your most stupid incident (drunk stories would be good!)?
During a drunken night out, I wandered off mid-conversation (no idea why), and started walking home only I went in the complete opposite direction, and it took me two hours before I realised this. I live just 3 minutes from the bar.

Just had xmas and new year. I had planned to have loads of fun and get my assignment written up. I had moderate fun and didn't get much of assignment done, darn. Didn't even go out for Hogmanay :icon_sad:

I hope to continue to improve in my course and as a person. As usual I plan to learn guitar, come out to my family and be better organised but those are my resolutions every year and I never achieve them. I just want to be happy, and perhaps have more friends, or someone special

5. The first 6 months were hell for me, but the last few ones have been great fun so it sort of balances out

I haven't been on EC for the last few months, hopefully I'll be on a bit more often, but I don't plan on leaving ever
