First let me apologize if this is an inappropriate thing to talk about. I don't mean to be graphic or anything, I just need some support and advice.

Let's get right to it: I masturbate regularly. I feel bad about it, because I'm supposedly Christian and it's a sin(isn't everything?). I also kind of look at porn, hence the getting off.

The point is I want to stop for good, but every time I try I just start doing it again a few days later. :eusa_doh: Does anyone here have tips or tactics for stopping?

Again, sorry for bringing this up, I know no one's supposed to talk about it ever.

Well, I don't really see why you want to stop... masturbation is normal, and everyone does it! You can do it and be a "good Christian" (or whatever...)
So I don't think you need to stop. If you really must stop, I have a feeling it's going to suck.

Glue sand paper to your palms.

    I bet you'd stop then.

  4. Wanting to get away from looking at porn I can understand. But nowhere in the Bible does it say masturbation is a sin, nor is there any evidence to indicate that it would be. It's actually very healthy. And it's not really such a taboo subject as you make it out to be. I'm also a Christian, I also masturbate. I don't see any problem with that!

If you still think you need to stop... well, all I can say is good luck

You have absolutely no good reason to stop. In fact, studies show that masturbation in males helps maintain prostate health to a certain degree.

If you really want to stop, I know of only one way, and that involves a keyholder and a device.

Exactly. Masturbation is part of human nature, and if you want to do it, then do it, as long as it doesn't interfere with your responsibilities and every day tasks.

If religion is the only reason why you wanna stop, then I guess you just need to dedicate more time serving the Lord or praying or something and forget about masturbation.. I don't really know cause I'm Catholic but I'm not that religious.

    Just my 2 cents

It's only natural and everyone does it, so I wouldn't bother going cold turkey. That's no fun. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

The whole, wasting your seed passage.

    I can't quote.
My interest in religion has ceased.

  10. Umm this one? Genesis 38: 9-10: "But Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; so whenever he lay with his brother's wife, he spilled his semen on the ground to keep from producing offspring for his brother. What he did was wicked in the Lord's sight; so he put him to death also." (NIV)

It's all up to interpretation, but I think it's about coitus interruptus not masturbation.

No i beleive it was something about Jesus himself telling folks yet another one of his amazingly metaphorical stories.

Something about "shall not waste seed god gave you"
I cant remember, i'll google and post back in a tic.

The neat thing about Christianity is that we apparently are all sinners. Right from birth onwards. It's inevitable. We will sin.

Rasputin got it right, dagnabbit! Since forgiveness is a given as long as you ask, sin away! The more sin, the more forgiveness!

    Woohoo!

As for the whole masturbation situation, if you really want to stop for whatever reason, just remember that your grandparents/ancestors/pets are all watching you from heaven. And you wouldn't wanna jerk off in front of grandma/great uncle Henry/Fido.

Wow, I'm surprised at the reaction. I thought people would support change instead of convincing me to stay the same. I mean in terms of my habit.

I always thought that to be forgiven you have to feel genuinely sorry for your sins. That's why I feel bad about frequent masturbation without remorse. I used to cry every few times because of what I was doing. Then again, at least I'm not killing anybody. Then again, isn't it sort of like preventing life? Ugh, brainwash brainwash...

My problem is that my religion conflicts with my inevitable lifestyle. Instead of masturbating I should go out and meet a nice guy and form a relationship that transcends pure eroticism. But because of my religious family and upbringing, I fear the consequences of truly being happy with another man and so avoid intimate relationships. At least I'm self-aware, huh?

I try to remember my signature quote, but I still worry about going to hell. Accepting my homosexuality is tough on the inside. It would help to have real life friends to talk to.

  14. Just remember that semen gets absorbed into the body and/or released in a wet dream if you don't help it along... So why not get some pleasurable health benefits in the process? Just Google "health benefits of masturbation." It's kind of surprising actually.

Numfarh: Damn you! Ugh I can just tell that's going to pop into my head at very inconvenient times.

I guess I should include, before I get in too much trouble, I do not believe in the christian god. Or a god in general. Take everything that I said with a bucket of salt if you believe in christianity.

    Haha!

Life is too short to worry about something as little as masturbating. The only people who don't masturbate are probably like people who don't have arms or something. I bet they still find ways too even lol.

Masturbating it's a superior mammals thing. I mean, even dogs do it!

I dunno where is the sin in masturbating. I'd like Markio himself explaining it.

    Bcoz wasting your seed?
Sperm is ALWAYS produced in the reproductive male system, ALWAYS. And it obviously can stay inside the body, coz the production has to continue. So the body has a few tricks to unload this sperm, even if there is no sex or reproduction going on. So it comes out during the night  OR the brain get's kinky coz the body knows it has to get off, and then you wanna masturbate. BIOLOGICAL FACT
    (My major is biology so...)

So if that's the sin, Why did god made us that way? Why did god made us to automaticly waste seed, if that's a sin?

I am confused as to how a confident homosexual has religious confliction with masturbating.

If you're in a church that accepts hommosexuals, then you're in the minority of christian communities. Surely someone in a minority group can see that everything in the bible is open to interpretation and thus is the reason for the seperation of beliefs.

It's pretty commonly accepted that the reason masturbation is looked down upon in christian society is because it encourages sexual freedom - reduced the need for a monogamous heterosexual relationship etc.

I don't know if you want to get (further) into the discussion on whether masturbation is a sin or not. Biblical evidence is extremely weak. Paul discusses "abstinence from fornication", but he also talks about "the avoiding of blood". There's a bit more in the OT, but it's deep in Leviticus, where you have to start handing over goats if your goats kill someone's sheep.

In any event, it would appear you have two options.

You can stop completely. But that one's gonna be difficult. Because, as I've said before, masturbation kicks ass. It feel great, it's relaxing, and it temoporarily takes care of the libido so you can concentrate on other things (yes, even the Bible). Trying to stop completely will be an ongoing struggle, and one that will be extremely difficult to totally overcome. People have been inventing "anti-masturbation" devices and techniques for eons now. And guess what? None of them seem to be working very well.

Or, you can make peace with it. You don't have to say "God wants me to masturbate" or anything like that. But find a medium you can live with. Agree to do it only once a week, say. If you want, talk to a pastor or church leader about it.

Ok everyone, let's be clear. You don't HAVE to masturbate. You won't DIE if you don't masturbate. You CAN become addicted to masturbation and pornography just like you can become addicted to drugs or alcohol.

When someone raises the concern and indicates that they want to stop and they can't, then that suggests there might be a problem. Dismissing it as 'normal' because 'everyone does it' doesn't mean that it might not be a problem for this person. It certainly became a problem for me, and just about ruined my life.

    So...

I do agree with many of the people above that it's important to understand WHY you want to stop masturbating. What are the underlying feelings and emotions that make you want to stop, and as well that make you start again. You attribute this to religion, and that could very well be the case. But shame and guilt are negative emotions that you might be avoiding or escaping from by reverting to masturbation.

It's probably a good idea to talk to someone about it. A counsellor or therapist. If you are genuinely concerned that you have a problem and want to start with someone, you can always PM me.

Or if I'm making more of your thread than I should, just disregard. I just didn't want to ignore what might have been a cry for help on this topic.
