I mainly listen to electric soul. It's edgey yet comforting so it's perfect for me. Like John Legend or India Arie. I listen to others artists such as, Adele, Frou Frou, Jem, Corinne Bailey Rae, or John Mayer.

Oddly, Tool and APC and Puscifer (Maynard just = <3)

    Pink Floyd definitely

Certain soundtracks and scores like the Battlestar Galactica soundtrack

    The Beach Boys

    Sublime

    Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

Lynyrd Skynyrd =) (Especially The Ballad of Curtis Lowe or All I Can Do is Write About It)

Blues and Jazz and other instrumentals and acoustics.

EDIT: OOOOOOOOOOH HOW COULD I FORGET

The Entire Album of Electric Tears by Buckethead. IT IS SO SOOTHING. When I lived in my dorm, I'd put it on and fall asleep often. I love it!

People tend to underestimate the power of the orchestra. For me, nothing calms me more than the sound of orchestral music..the sound of music itself.

I have very eclectic musical tastes and the classics are part of that.

Here a little taste of that greatness from Stravinsky:

"Get Better" by Mates of State is one of my go-to songs when I'm feeling anxious about something, or lonesome. To me, it's one of those songs that's like a security blanket in aural form.

"Everybody's Gotta Live" just makes me feel alright with life. Without fail.

"Center of the Sun" by Conjure One (specifically this remix, but there are at least 3 others I know of) just... Melts away any bad day I might have had. It's long enough to lose myself in it, and I love the lyrics. Looove the lyrics.

And there's "American Dreaming" by Dead Can Dance, but I can't find a good copy of it on youtube. It's just... gorgeous. Goooorgeous. It doesn't sound a lot like most of the rest of their music, but it's gorgeous nonetheless.

R.E.M. Their music always calms me because it is mellow and soulful and sometimes they have a underlying message within the words. A lot of the songs like losing my religion, man on the moon, night swimming, they each have a specific sound that you can relax to. Then there are some happy songs like shiny happy people that just make me smile. Whenever I hear that song I just want to get up and dance like they do at the end of the video. If no one has seen the video, just watch it, it's awesome!

I have two folders of calming music on the iPod. One is more generic calming. Generally slow pop. Here's a favorite.

Then I have "hardcore calming". The lying-in-bed-with-a-cup-of-hot-tea-and-a-really-good-book calming.

When I´m feeling down I listen to Caged by Within Temptation. I have no idea why but it makes me happy.

As much as I'm not sure how to feel about admitting it, but most Japanese music. I don't know, their music has catchy beats that I find missing in most English music, and since I don't understand the language I don't have to analyze and interpret the meaning of a song. I know that's essentially the point of making music for others to listen to, so it's weird for me. I might have been into it more if I was given freedom to find my own tastes in music instead of having it shoved down my ears at first. Oh well.
