That really makes me ill. At least in the United States, the consequences of a rape conviction are so extreme, that one's life as he knows it, will come to an end. There is usually sex offender registration, long prison terms, possibly stupid treatment that doesn't work, extremely long parole periods ... at then once you have such a conviction you will be likely excluded from all kinds of housing, jobs will be a problem ... when you finally get out of prison.
It's the same thing in England, even if the man is wrongly accused he goes on the sex offender register, unless his wife leaves him and takes the kids with her the children can be taken away by social services and placed in foster care! If the courts ever let him see his kids again it is only under social security supervision in an administrative building with a social worker looking on for any 'inappropriate' behaviour. Inappropriate behaviour is at the discression of the person watching so hugs, cuddles even touching their child becomes a nightmare to be avoided at all costs incase it is poorly interpreted and they never get to see their child again!!! Women like this one RUIN peoples lives, not just the 8 men she accused but their entire family, friends and work colleagues talk about them behind their backs. Women like that should be called to answer for all the misery they cause
that is awful. but... there has to be some backstop for women who say they've been raped and the defendant is found not guilty. okay, not 8 times in 6 years, but sometimes juries do get it wrong. if a woman is raped and the man is found not guilty, (which happens A LOT because we have appalling conviction rates here in the uk), she can't just be punished or "named and shamed", which is want some conservatives want. there's already way too much shame and discrimination in reporting a rape, which is why so few are reported, and so few are convicted. ...which makes this woman all the more despicable - it's the handful who lie who make life appalling for all the poor ones who actually have been raped. :tears: i guess this article shows just how much rape sucks - in more ways than one.
i fully agree that rape sucks. but you can't deny that there's a good amount of women who cry rape falsly.
