As a little boy, I had chronic stuttering problems. They actually enrolled me in a special school because it was so bad. Although, I am not stutter free I still stutter here and there. Its more of a nervous stutter.

I think sometimes with stuttering it outgrows itself. I still have problems introducing myself to people without stuttering all over my first name.

I think one thing you have to remember is relax, take a few deep breaths. And that people are not listening to the stutter, but rather what you are saying as a person.

I know someone who has a stuttering problem and I never knew until someone pointed it out. I once mentioned in my running group that I stutter because the people there said I was a "quiet talker" I told them the reason was because I stutter, they said they have never heard me stutter once. Sometimes people do not pick up on others stuttering unless its REALLY CHRONIC. Most people are just listening to what you have to say. Humans own self-perception of themselves are often the worse and they pick up on things that most people do not.

    Hope this helps some
    Justin

Today I actually had a really bad stuttering episode. My family asked me to go into a resturant and ask how long the wait was. I tried getting it out I failed all 4 times it was embarrassing. Finally, the lady just asked my question for me.

I really hate that I stutter, because although people probably do not make fun of me now it still reminds me of school were I was teased a lot about it.

I know. I need to let these things roll off my back. But its still hard for me.

I would advise stopping when you cannot say a word, and taking a moment to relax, and think about the word you want to say. You will find that this makes it easier to express yourself, because you have stepped back from the mental loop you were trapped in.

If the problem is very bad, I would also advise seeing a hypnotherapist. They could really help you (in my opinion).

Wow, so many peeps here stutter! I only stutter a bit, and only when people suddenly pay attention to me. Like if I'm suddenly asked a question I don't know, and I want to say "I don't know, sir." It just comes out like "I ... I ... I." and it just gets worse until he tells me to sit down. And of course everyone laughs.

I used to stutter a little, and I had a bit of a lisp, but I went to speech therapy for a while, and it is all fixed, that is your best option, but it is expensive

What do you mean by "going hardcore"? If you mean that she is pushing you really hard to improve then that's probably goo as it's what want too. I hope it works for you.

THAT excatly happens to me all teh time, cuz Im too nervous, and cant think, blackout X.x lol

Well, Bill, I dont know how to help, but I think sluttering sometimes causing by you dont know what is your next word so you have to repeat that same word, while your mind trying to speak out the sentense but the other side of your brain is blocked out

Some even happen dosent matter how slow you speak, so I guess just think whole through sentense before you speak

Think about what you want to say before you say it that way you have it all planned out and if the conversation takes an unexpected turn just don't rush into things and take your time to think about what you want say before you say it again don't worry if there is a bit of a pause because it is better then stopping half way through a sentence which is sort of what stuttering is.
    Good luck!!(*hug*)
