The leaked documents show that they are eyeing over turning marriage equality as well as the court decision that made sodomy laws unenforceable! When that happens it will legit be illegal to be a sexually active gay man where I’m at!

Scary times in the US, which appears to be turning into Gilead before our very eyes...

Yep. Certainly the same logic being used to undercut R v. W could also be used against marriage equality (both same-sex and mixed-race).

If this actually happens I'm fleeing to Canada and taking my LGBTQIA+ friends with me. This can't seriously be happening, it just can't.

It won't happen if our US sisters and brothers stand up, take to the streets and fight for their rights, for all of our rights.

And, of course, vote in November against the fascists (you can't call them Republicans, the party of Lincoln and Eisenhower, any more) who are proposing this.

All of this demonstrates how very politicised the Supreme Court has become. I find it staggering that Senior Justices would effectively piss all over a decision made by their esteemed predecessors many years ago. It's actually disrespectful to those former Justices who heard the arguments before arriving at a clear majority decision in Roe v Wade, but most of the current Justices are party puppets who shouldn't even be hearing small claims. The Trump appointees were definitely not selected for their independence of thought or ability to fairly and rationally interpret the law and constitution of the United States. Every one of those appointments was designed to tip the balance of the court in a deeply conservative direction.

Control the Supreme Court, control the country. I already have counterarguments circling in my mind in case that's what they're gunning for next.

I’m honestly just at a loss! It is gonna be a battle and I was so ready for some peace honestly… I live in the south and homophobia never left… I deal with it nearly daily… this is just gonna make it even worse… cause we have no choice but fight!

I'm absolutely terrified, we just got marriage equality seven years ago. Trans people are STILL having to fight for their rights. I try to not keep up with politics, but I can't just ignore this anymore.

I was going to move very far north because of this, some spots are better than others but it's still prevalent. If they start stripping us of our rights though, nowhere will be safe for us in this country.

There are like 14 states with pretty good polices for lgtbq… Nevada even added us to the state constitution which is the best because it is the most concrete thing! States can’t give more rights so it’s just better… but it’s still scary… not sure what the next few years will be like watching it happen… I’m in Georgia… we still have anti-sodomy laws… so they over time Lawrence v. Texas they’ll arrest us for sure!

I would say what state I live in but I have to be careful, I'm also in the south though. I don't like one of our senators much but our governor is ok. I think Arkansas was the worst policy wise when I was looking at the MAP (Movement Advancement Project) website, so I suppose at least it's better than that. The town I work in is one of the few that has an anti-discrimination ordinance luckily (and this company has policies against discrimination too). I need to make myself fully aware of my rights in this state though. If I move north I'm thinking Vermont or Oregon, provided we keep our rights and won't be arrested. The moment there are even whispers of them overturning it we need to be ready to (legally) defend ourselves.

I just don't think they like us much, don't understand why though.

Ultimately, it's fear. They're scared. And when I mean 'they', I mean the rich white heterosexual men* who have wielded power over us for centuries.

They're scared of women. Feminism directly threatens their systems of command.

They're scared of people of colour. They know as whites they will soon be a minority within the US and this scares the living daylights out of them.

And us, the LGTBQ community? Our existence messes with their heads. For deep down they fear they might be one of us too. So they have to distance themselves from us, scapegoat us, 'other' us.

    * Not all of them, of course, Some are great allies. But imho if we're talking broad strokes of history this is what is happening: it's a power struggle and one group of people who have been running things for a long time feel very threatened.

That does make sense, why so many others jump on that bandwagon when they're not a part of it is what's mind-boggling. It won't benefit them.

It’s the court ruling that made it were states couldn’t enforce anti-sodomy laws… so basically making it legal to be a sexual active gay man in many states… there are like, I wanna 19 states, that still have anti-sodomy laws that could be used to charge gay men once it’s over turned!

Anyone who's sexually active with the same sex could be thrown in jail for it is what you're saying here right?

Yes! The document that was leaked stated that the decision in the Texas case was wrong and should be corrected… so me having sex with a consenting partner in my house would mean I’d be breaking the law in Georgia and could be charged and opens up the door the having to register as a sex offender! It’s terrifying honestly!
