I apologize if I didn't include who you think is the most underrepresented in the LGBTQ+ community. The poll would only allow me to create 10 possible responses.

Feel free to comment who you think is the most underrepresented in the LGBTQ+ community if they aren't up there.

I'm kind of surprised that asexual has the most votes.

I was going between asexual and pansexual just because in a lot of media that isn't centered on LGBTQ+ people, those are the ones that are mentioned least. I went with Asexual because I felt like even in the community, it's the most underrepresented group.

I also think bisexuals are underrepresented quite a bit. I guess the underrepresentation is due to obvious reasons.

I have to say I disagree with this. I would even go so far as to say it may be an overrepresented group. It's a sad truth that many people hide behind the banner of asexuality in order to avoid deep and difficult questions about their sexual identity and there are some places on the internet where asexuality has simply become and umbrella term for various ideas and notions that enable people to avoid those difficult questions. I don't think that's a good thing. Avoiding issues only stores up trouble for the future and can do more harm than good over the long term.

None of this is to deny that some people are very definitely asexual and I know how frustrating it is to those people when they see others jumping on a bandwagon rather than exploring the same questions they had to face. In many ways this bandwagon effect has had undermining negative consequences for them too.

I know some people will not like what I wrote above, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be said. I have been very careful to qualify my comments so as not to stand accused of rejection or "erasure" of asexual people, when that is far from true. I think asexual people who have done a lot of deep and intense personal work are very brave and deserve utmost respect.

I totally agree with everything you said and the fact that asexuality may actually be an overrepresented group.

If you don't mind, can you elaborate on the difficult questions that people that hide behind the banner of asexuality avoid? I'm definitely not asexual, but I can't help but be curious. Thanks!

The questions that some people are avoiding revolve around issues like shame, sexual phobia and/or trauma of some kind. It may be only one of those issues or all of those issues + others not mentioned. I also think some people are confusing and conflating celibacy with asexuality. To be clear, I am not saying this applies to everyone who is asexual, but I know it applies to many (despite objections to the contrary) and I really worry about the long term mental health impact for those people.

There are plenty of gay men and no gay women in the media.

I honestly think bisexuals are definitely the most underrepresented.

I think that being gay made me happy (its in the name) so I think that being gay might be the happiest bunch.
It turned out that I didn't just become happy and end all my suicidal tendencies, but that I must have seasonal affective disorder. I still stick to my case though.

I can totally understand! I've been a lot happier since accepting my bisexuality. I've always been a relatively happy person though.

I'm so sorry that you suffer with suicidal tendencies.

In the summer & spring I feel the same way!
And I try to keep the depression under control. Its not my biggest issue, well not as big of a problem as when I was 10.

    Hi @Comrade and @BiBoyToy,

You’ll find profile wall posts are a more convenient way to continue your conversation.

Also, please keep in mind that long one-to-one conversations on threads can discourage other members from posting on the thread.

    Thanks.
