Are there any LGBTQ movies and TV shows out that helped you in any part of your journey or is currently helping you? Currently for me it’s the movie Love Simon and the sequel Hulu series Love Victor. I feel like I can relate to what Simon and Victor have gone through.

I'm on the same page with Simon vs. and all of its adaptations and spinoffs! 'Alex Strangelove' on Netflix has also been helpful to me lately... Being in a seemingly perfect straight relationship and not knowing what to do when you find out you're someone else. I recommend it if you haven't seen it!

I'm sure this is not what you mean, but there is one show and one movie that made me realize that I was attracted to guys, I don't know exactly which came first. The show was an MTV reality show following skateboarder Ryan Sheckler. I never really watched MTV, I didn't like reality shows, and I wasn't really into skateboarding, but he was really hot. The movie was High School Musical. Even though I was in college at the time it first aired and I probably shouldn't have been watching Disney Channel, I really liked all three of the leading guys in the movie.

I wanted to add that while I haven't had any shows or movies that helped me with being queer in the way that's suggested, I have been affirmed by two books, both transgender biographies. The first is "Becoming Nicole", the story of Nicole Maines. The other is "Sorted: A Transgender Memoir" by Jackson Bird. Both have a lot of things that I can relate to (though with Jackson Bird, it's in the reverse gender role).

Glee, Everything sucks, Love Simon, Love Victor, But I'm a Cheerleader, and Geography club. I have had celebrity crushes on characters in other TV shows which helped me realize I was lesbian but they weren't LGBT.

Oh I watched Alex Strangelove recently, great movie! The main actor is super cute :stuck_out_tongue:I also recommend Beach Rats for a slightly more realistic take, the actress who played Alex's girlfriend (Madeline Weinstein) is also in that movie, interestingly enough.

The latest show Ive watched was L Word Generation Q. I also watched the original L Word. When I was younger I liked Tipping the Velvet, When Night is Falling, Like Water for Chocolate. I had a crush on Jodie Foster even though she wasn’t out as anything. I can remember when Ellen came out. Not sure what to think of what’s being said about her now. I watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer when I was younger.

It was so beautiful. The scenery, the chemistry, and the sort of ambiguous ending made me so happy.

I started re-runs of Buffy and it is amazing.

For the whole Ellen Situation here are my thoughts:
    1) Ellen is guilty of not managing/supervising her producers as closely as she should have. I think once she got very famous and had other preoccupations, she just let others run the show.

    2) Like most people who become famous, she lost her way. It can happen to even the best and most lovable people.

    3) I think some people are over-reacting to some of the jokes she made. For example, scaring a person by jumping out of nowhere is something we have all done. It is not mean-spirited. Some jokes are a bit edgy, but when you feel comfortable with a friend you might make it despite the millions watching you.

its not an lgbt move, but The Decline of Western Society 3 is a documentary about 90s punk history. in that movie they included a live performance of queer thoughts by litmus green. that song in that movie really helped me feel more comfortable being a part of the scene, as I was both a baby gay and a baby punk at the time.

I think love victor is definitely the tv show I can relate to the most, but some movies that not just helped me, but were also feel-good rom com type of watched were ‘saving face’ and ‘imagine me and you’. ‘Imagine me and you’ is not specifically about coming out or anything, it’s just a cute happy movie with happy ending and brilliant love story, which is what actually helped me the most cause it kind of showed this world where people are accepting and you don’t really need to suffer to fall in love (it’s sort of a nice escape), ‘saving face’ is just a masterpiece about family and I loved it

The Birdcage, Pose (season 2), Priscilla Queen of the desert, The Rocky Horror Picture Show,
And a lot of movies (or books) with a female protagonist to identify with.
