When I was little, I used one. As I have gotten older, I have found better comfort and neck support with two, especially because I usually lay on my side.

So two is the magic number for me.

+ 1. I agree. Not 3 pillows! Something about sleeping in the fetal position on my side that needs 2 pillows.

When you sleep on your side, do you sleep with a pillow between your legs?

I sleep with four really thin pillows under my head but it’s only the height of two good pillows. I also have a pillow under my waist. I get frequent stomachaches and for some reason this helps. I sleep on my side, usually my left side.

I like to have 2 extra pillows on my sides. I use them for resting my hands on them.)

I start with 1. But if my s/o gets up in the middle of the night because he doesn’t sleep I’ll end up stealing his and abandoning mine.

No. That would be uncomfortable to me, plus when I change positions and lay on my back, there would just be a pillow all jumbled up by my legs.

So you technically still use one, if you abandon yours when you get his. Your basically just swapping it out for another.

I'm usually a log (legs straight out, and arms in some weird position, hahaha). I hear the fetal position is bad for your spine.

Three. One for my head, one between my legs, and one to hold as a way to prevent my arms from moving around.

It's best for your health to only use one under your head. Any more than that and it causes your neck/spine to have issues when you're old due to the angled position.

What if your pillows are kind of old/droopy from repeated use wand washings and you need two to kid of recreate the height of a new, firmer one?

I used to two, but it wasn't doing me any favors with my posture

Exactly. It’s just not my original one.

However many would equal the height of one normal pillow is fine (pillows are supposed to be replaced every year also to prevent that).

The issue is that even though it feels better to have our neck propped up a bit with multiple pillows, we don't realize our body then gets stuck like that for 8 hours with our neck in a propped position. Over years of doing that, it permanently damages the neck and warps the bones into that angled position, which causes back pain, neck pain, stiffness, headaches etc.

The goal is to have your body as close to flat and at a 90 degree angle as possible. The best sleeping position is on your back. Second best is on your side but not the fetal position. Worst which is almost guaranteed to give you pain is on your stomach.

I believe I do sleep on my side. There's a slight bend of the knees. Nowhere near completely fetal. Thank you for pointing this out.

I rest in bed on my back. I start out that way at night and then end up on my side.

I sleep with two pillows and two dogs.
In my younger days I moved around all night in my sleep assuming every possible position much to the annoyance of my lovers/husbands .
Now as a geriatric old fairy, who’s had several disks surgically removed from the base of a disintigrating lower spine, I can only sleep on my back.

Never thought that anyone would use more than one under their head. Just one is good enough for me.

Both are a thin Kapok/Bamboo ( read Rayon!) blend and easy to shape as I wan’t.
Why, I find myself wondering, am I talking about this when the human species is about to achieve it’s own extinction?
