I enjoy the performance aspect of it, and seeing the different ideas people come up with. It's not something I really seek out, but now I want to try it in some different contexts. Do you think headphones/earbuds enhance the experience?
I think it's one of those things you either 'get' or you 'don't get'. I'm decidedly in the "I don't get these at all" camp, but I know plenty of others who enjoy them.
The thing about ASMR videos is that the sound itself usually isn't meant to be relaxing. Yes, its not disturbing but not created for relaxation either. It's more about the feeling person has associated with that sound. Personally I have this certain sound associated with feeling calm and protected. Thats why I love listening to it and why it helps me to relax. It's also the only type of ASMR video I can listen to, the others are annoying to me as well xd
No. They don't do anything for me. I don't get the point of them. I read somewhere ASMR was supposed to produce a natural high, so I thought "I'll try it." And it's just a bunch of weird sounds and whispers. It's rather unsettling, if you ask me.
Yes! Very surprised to see this thread, honestly but glad it was brought up. I do watch it a lot on youtube, especially the soap cutting, cutting the sand clay and the crunchy noises. I can't explain it but I very much enjoy it!
Yes, depending on what sort they are. I find some types really relaxing e.g the soap cutting but the role plays don't work for me.
I have troubles falling asleep and I sometimes listen to baking and dog washing ASMR. I don't "get it" but its boring and mellow enough to help me sleep sometimes. The eating ones should be banned.
I really don't like them. I can understand why someone would tho and I know a few people that do, but I just get like goosebumps all over and it freaks me out. I also don't like people whispering in my ear so that might have to do with that.
For me it depends on the specific video, but my favorites tend to be tapping and rambles and white noise/background noise type stuff. I've listened to them for years now. Not every single night, and it varies - sometimes I don't listen to any for a hot minute, other times I listen to them almost every night for a stretch. I use them to distract me, calm me down, and help me fall asleep if I'm having a hard time chilling and sleeping.
I haven't really tried them but it seems like something that could be relaxing, but I'm just really tense and uncomfortable.
I'm not really sure it comes under ASMR, but I do love watching massage videos. It's so relaxing knowing someone is completely relaxed, having a professional work deep into their tired muscles. I start falling asleep because it looks so relaxing and comfortable.
