Sometimes it feels like I'm not meant to come out. I was about to come out to a few of my friends a few weeks ago, and just before I said a sly comment, the friend I'm closest to said something homophobic and everyone laughed and agreed. A lot of people I'm close to are homophobic. I don't know how I got here. In line at McDonalds I was telling my boyfriend a self-deprecating gay joke, and then the people behind us started talking about faggots. On the train, the people beside me were trying to decide how gay someone should be allowed to be. The city I live in is no stranger to gay hate crimes.

When I was in highschool, the only thing that got me through was knowing some day I'd get out of my small town and people would be more accepting. Now that I've been out of highschool for years, and live in a big city, nothing feels different. I'm still scared as shit.

Gay Marriage has been legal for soooo long in Canada. what the fuck.

We’re still a minority (or subordinate group as is the preferred term in sociology) and society still treats us as such. It’s a common misconception both among LGB and straight people that just because gay marriage is legal means we face no challenges in societal acceptance. A court decision or a law does nothing to change people’s attitudes sadly.

Okay. Hope you enjoy reading it. I'm currently reading The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli.

That's true. I wasn't particularly trying to say that legalization = acceptance. Its been around 15 years since gay marriage was legalized in Canada. It's just crazy to me how much hostility there still is, particularly with young people who would have grown up only knowing gay marriage to be legal.

It is interesting though, how many people have changed their stance on cannabis and stoner culture in the single year its been legal here. The legality of something definitely has an impact on people's feelings on it.

I enjoyed it quite a bit actually. I'll need to read more written by him.

How are you finding it thus far?

I like it. The main character is in a love triangle, and I'm trying to figure out who I like her with better.

Detriments of climate change: Dad's land hit by bushfire as soon as fire season hits, house preserved more by luck than by firebreaks.

Silver linings of climate change: Late spring snows are easier to keep warm in when bushfires provide plenty of dried wood.

I've been there too. And it's frustrating but I realized that there are actually particular things that I'm specially good at.
So no need to be afraid of what comes out, there are things that you CAN do to make your world a better place as well as other people's worlds.

Its 5.30 in the morning, it's 40 degrees and supposed to snow later tonight, and I'm at school. Why do you ask? Because my principal who has been at school since 4 has locked himself out of the building. And since I stay 35 mins away from my school, I ain't going home. So here I am trying to be great for the day I go into the auditorium because I'm going to change some light bulbs and stuff. And it's dark because I had to get to the main power. And I trip.

I trip over a chicken figurine that has been decorated with a string of Christmas lights. I screamed like someone in a horror movie because I couldn't figure out exactly what it was at first. So here I am, sitting on the floor with carpet burn on my face, a demonic chicken looking at me. And here comes my principal because he heard me scream.

He's been in my office since 6.45 playing with a trumpet that's in my office. It's time for him to go wander somewhere else and leave me alone. I got work to do that I could be doing but I don't trust him in my office.

Why is it that I'm usually the one people look to for making decisions? I have no idea what I'm doing either. :face_palm:

If only people could be more understanding!
But I think you still can give him some hints some times you know. I don't think he would mind being a little more reasonable.

I really had! And I'm glad you shared this

Haha the whole point of sharing was so that someone could have a laugh  I've yet to figure out what's up with the chicken, though. Probably seniors being...well...seniors.

Don't get me wrong, I like our Principal. He's a great guy, great administrator, great leader, great with students and staff. I like our VP's great guy and gal. I like our guidance team, the office staff. But I don't trust any of them. I don't socialize with them, I don't hang out with them, I don't even really leave my corner of the school if I don't have to. They gossip too much.

Take Coach Ferris for instance, he's our head football coach/director of athletics. Great guy. Mean as a shaken rattle snake, but generally a great guy. I don't even go to his office and we chat the most. (His office smells like gym socks and jock straps with a bit of lemon zest because it's directly over the locker rooms). I don't socialize with him either. "Yup, band will be there". "Nope band isn't coming". Perfect examples of most of our conversations.

The fact that I was at school so early is in of itself a miracle and it was only because p had locked himself out — there's only four people who have keys to unlock the building and have the alarm codes: principal, one of the VP's, the districts maintenance supervisor, and myself.

Watching the Little Mermaid Live and it is very underwhelming. I was expecting it to be good with Auli'i Cravahlo and Queen Latifah, but it's unfortunately not that good.

So you are a loner? Right? Me too. And because of that I'm always a bit delusional about what people think of me. It goes away really fast when I talk about what's been bothering me. And I also get to be heard!
But it's up to you really.

Btw I love your narrative! Have you ever thought about writing???
