I went to a local uni (not super well known, but not a community college) and it was 7k a year (just tuition). I don't want to ask how much it is there lol

My university is also about $7,000 per year in tuition, however, out of all 50 states... Florida has the lowest tuition of any state due to our government massively subsidizing education with tourism revenue. In a more average state, it's more like $10,000-$12,000 per year. It can go as high as $60,000 per year if you go to a private university instead of a public one too.

If you ever plan to go back to college, do your first 2 years at a community college.

Tuition for 2 years in my community college for a citizen was $1,000. Get your general classes done in 2 years, transfer to a public college and your degree will be cheaper and look the exact same as someone who went to university for 4 years. And you save thousands of dollars in the process.

Florida schools are also highly subsidized by international students.

I paid $10,000 every semester in comparison to $3,000 that a citizen would pay. You are welcome lol

It's going to be interesting to see how Alberta votes tonight.
Just hope it's not a Conservative win. :fingers_crossed:

My research lab boss recently discovered I'm not straight. Today when I showed up to the lab there was a rainbow flag the size of a notecard with the words "no hate zone" on it taped to the door, which was clearly put there for me. I was touched by the gesture, I have a really awesome boss.

I also got to play with wild sea turtles today which was pretty fun, we had to scrape bacteria off their shells to study it.

Back from the most amazing road trip with my dog (and also my bf for part of it)! Looking over the employee handbook for the job I'm about to start next week. Not only are sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression included in the nondiscrimination policy, but there is specific language that says that transpeople must be allowed to use the restrooms that correspond with their gender identity. This is a far cry from the job I just left where I was closeted for the 2.5 years I worked there. I'm really excited to get started!

I posted on fb about how a video from mayor Pete made me tear up. I mentioned how crazy it is that this is our reality.

One of my mentors commented this. He was part of Act Up back in the day, one of the first people who survived HIV by using experimental drugs, and one of the people who taught me that’s okay to be just a little bit queer. He made me cry again.

Remember your elders for they fought and died for us. You are never as alone and you feel, so don't let that feeling win. Think of them and the sacrifices they made to make our lives just a little bit more tolerable. Then pay it forwards, friends.

Love you all so much. If today was a bad day, I hope tomorrow is better!

Food! I can't help but think about food even in my dreams. It's because I'm on my 4th day of mu 5-day fast and just like the first few days, it's still challenging esp mentally. It's not for spiritual but health reasons though, but yeah FOOD.

Found my late uncle’s old business sign in one of the sheds at work. Must be at least 20 years old. Glad they didn’t throw it away and I was able to take it home.

I finally have my tablet back up and running. It's a bit weird seeing the full version of the site and not the mobile version.

Today is the 20th anniversary of Columbine. The saddest thing is that all of the victims have now been dead longer than they were alive.

As a non-American it's maybe not my place to comment, but.... sadder still that fuck all has changed in your country in 20 years and the same massacre could (god forbid) so easily take place next week.

Yeah, that is the really sad thing. The gun lobby here has made sure that nothing really has changed. Hopefully with the NRA running out of money things will start moving in the right direction.

I don’t think that’s going to change anything. Those people will still vote this issue every year like they always have and these shootings will keep happening with higher and higher death tolls.

Editing my resume with my most recent job. I have to say - I'm impressed with my ability to make it sound like I have more responsibility than I actually do and the job isn't as mindless as it really is.

I'm down to my final assignment for my entire college career.
