It feels like most of the gay movies we get are always super depressing awards-baiting films. While that is nice and all, it was really nice to just see a fun, well-acted and written dramedy. The movie put made me laugh and cry and I hope it gets seen by the teenagers who really need this sort of movie.

Nick Robinson, who I wasn't a big fan of in Jurassic World, is pretty great in the lead role, as are the entire supporting cast. It will be interesting to see how this movie does at the box office. It's about as mainstream as a gay movie can get, but I still know there are large chunks of the population who wouldn't be caught dead seeing a gay movie.

It really appeals to me. I just can't find a way to see it. Being a gay teen, I really think that this movie is what I need.
The trailer was great and the clip which I observed really touched me.

I saw it and my life is completely ruined for all other romcoms because I didn’t realize how much it would mean to have someone like me in one. I mean, we aren’t all the stereotypes. Some are, and that’s great, but seeing a Harry Potter lover with a taste for indie music and a strong jeans, T-shirt, sweatshirt look? It meant so much. It made me think that epic love stories don’t just belong to straight people. They belong to all of us. Honestly just that movie is so incredible and everyone, especially in the community, needs to see it.

    Yep, loved it.

@Ghost93 I see your photo fits the movie. Shall we call you "Blue"?

Agreed. Just sorry the theater was nearly empty, maybe a dozen people. I thought opening weekend would be packed, and I bought our tickets the day before just to be sure we got good assigned seats.

Yes this movie really meant a lot to me. I haven’t been a teenager for well over a decade now, however I could still relate to it. I remember what it was like to be that age and to be scared of letting anyone know I was gay. I wish there had been a movie like this when I was a teenager. I’m grateful that a major Hollywood studio financed this movie and it’s getting a wide release. And Nick Robinson, Jennifer Garner, and Josh Duhamel made me cry.

I just saw it today. It's such a beautiful film! I was close to tears at certain points. And made me laugh alot during others. There were times where I can relate to Simon so much. It has now become one of my favorite movies. Now, I just have to read the book!

Everyone, I just found out that the book the movie is based on has a sequel "Leah on the Offbeat" and focuses on Simon's best friend, and there's another book, a tie-in novel set in the same 'Simon Universe' called "The Upside of Unrequited" which follows the story of Molly who is the cousin of Abby Suso from "Love Simon".

Now I want to read all three!

I really want to watch it but I can't drive, and my friends can't drive, and the closest movie theater is 15 miles away... I am so sick of living in a rural town, there's nothing to do here and I'm going insane...

I saw it about a week ago and loved it. I think it really captured what it is like to be closeted in High School. So much so that for me it brought back some of those feelings of trying to hide the truth from family and friends.

I loved it so much. I've never cried at a movie and it made me cry twice. I needed that movie so much when I was in high school. Guess I still needed it today. I want to see it again and buy it the second it comes out on DVD

I haven't seen Love, Simon yet maybe I'll see it when it's on Hulu or Netflix. Anyway, I did notice some things about it I wanted to point out.

    1. Simon is portrayed as a masculine gay teen.
    2. How would the reception been if Simon had been a person of color/a lower socioeconomic class?

What do you mean by "masculine"?

I mean Hollywood seems to portray gay men in a masculine emphasis(see "Brokeback Mountain" or "Beach Rats"). I mean is Hollywood trying to construct a masculine White image of a gay man. That's my critique

What I am confused about is what is considered masculine? From what I have seen, he isn't a flamboyant, OTT character but hardly what I would see as "masculine".

Masculine I could say in a nutshell is a non-flambouyant acting gay guy.

So, even I would fall under masculine then, even though I can hardly be considered masculine? I find this really confusing.
