    What a lovely idea!

I’m thankful that I have the opportunity to be outside and explore. The place I live is so unbelievably beautiful and I’ve met some wonderful people due to hiking and getting out.

I'm grateful for a wonderful new friend who has been incredibly accepting and a fun person to talk to and be around. We are each helping the other through some tough times right now, and I'm grateful for someone to support and who will support me in turn

There is a story, supposedly true, that addresses the very question you ask. Maybe someone can help fill in the details. The story is about someone who was in a terrible situation, maybe a concentration camp. He said he had gratitude, and someone incredulously asked him how that could be possible. He answered that he was alive and he had air to breathe. That was more than some others had.

Gratitude, even for the simplest things is amazingly powerful. Gratitude is a choice, and is always available.

There’s a thing called neuroplasticity, which states that we can actually re-hardware our brain and neural pathways due to the fact that the brain is pretty malleable. I won’t get into all the specifics here, but over time, yes, reprogramming the brain through talking to it is possible. It’s weird, but possible.

That doesn’t mean if someone is genuinely sick they can change the brain, however.

Look up "Shawn Anchor Ted Talk Happiness" for an entertaining video on this very topic. One of Shawn's points in his formula for increasing happiness is to write down three gratitude's each day

Nueroplasticity, is quite real. i had fluid on the brain as a baby, scans in my 20's showed that my brain is wired differently than others. i have full function and above average IQ, our brains can be rewired, when we're older it takes longer.

The Brain's Body by Victoria Pitts-Taylor is a good resource, too, which came out a few years from Duke. Part of my dissertation is on how trauma affects neurophysiology so I'm really interested in neuroplasticity.

my son interviewed me last night as part of a school project. so grateful for a chance to share, or re-share, part of our family history, and my personal experiences. and my voice is a lot lighter than it was a year ago when his girl friend interviewed me, so grateful for speech therapy too.

DAXIII, today I have a better understanding of what you wrote at the beginning of this thread. Yesterday I had a bad day at work and my morale and self-esteem both went really low. I'm thinking I should remember to be grateful, but I'm not feeling grateful about ANYTHING. Still, I know that if I can find even one little bit of honest gratitude, it will help me to get out of this low state of mind.

daxlll is no longer part of this site, as far as I know, however, we all have times where gratitude is few and far between. look at the gaps in my postings on this thread. often the result of not feeling gratitude for what I have around me and what I have been given, recognized and unrecognized.
