To me it means me being obedient to the people above me.

Telling someone the truth even when they will be mad about it, because you care (or fear I suppose...) them enough to not want to manipulate them by lying.

Allowing them personal space and not doing things that will upset them.

Not judging them or making them feel bad about about their choices, whether they were good or bad.

Being treated the way I want to be treated. #1 is so important, because lot of people will indeed get mad over it, even though it needs to be done.

You sound like a hard-worker, OP

I give basic respect by default, it is basically live & let live + politeness

Serious respect only if you're a badass & you've proven yourself to me

Zero respect if you break some laws and/or abuse animals (including humans)

To me respect means not being judgemental of someones appearance, sexuality, beliefs, or self & to admire/appreciate everyone's uniqueness.

Respect means treating other people in a fair manner. It's about putting yourself on the situation of that person.

For the sake of clarity, I will often say that I owe to other people my kindness, my empathy, my attention, and my consideration, but I owe respect only to those who have earned it.

To me, respect means spreading positive energy to others and acting in a way that helps them feel better about themselves. Showing compassion and empathy is another form of respect. Not expecting others to be like you is respect to me. The list goes on for me.

    Respect for me means....

Respecting my physical boundaries. Don't get too close to me and don't touch me when it's not necessary. We're not in an intimate relationship. Personal space should always be respected.

Respect my emotional boundaries. If I'm not opening up to you about a certain subject in conversation, then don't try to force it out of me. If you're talking and talking about something and I'm not giving much back, then it's probably time to drop the subject.

Don't try to change me and tell me how I should behave. This goes back to respecting my emotional boundaries. Don't tell me to stop being shy and quiet. Accept the fact that I am a quiet and reserved person. If you want me to be more loud and outgoing, tough. Go find that with somebody else. If you try to change me, you will just decrease my desire to be in your company.

If we're working together and I do something wrong, point it out to me. I like being given the opportunity to learn from my mistakes and improve at what I'm doing. I can't do that if you do the job for me without telling me where I went wrong or where I've been negligent. And if you do point something out to me, please try not to be rude and condescending about it. I'm helping you run a place of business, not your house.

And when it comes to online activity, disagree with me amicably. I don't mind if people disagree with me - I'm happy to read about thoughts and experiences different from my own. But don't insult me just because you disagree with me on a subject. I'm not trying to make you change your mind, I'm not dictating to you how you should feel about the subject, I'm just sharing my opinion. There's no need to get too personal.

I give the CEO of the company I work for the same amount of respect I give the lowest paid person at the company. Unless they do something to change that.

You don't automatically get respect from me because of your: position in a company, title, education level, social status or wealth. Respect has to be earned, and it is tied into your integrity and how you treat others.

You can treat someone in a professional or in a courteous manor without actually respecting them at all. I am quiet polite and professional to people I out right hate, a couple I go out of my way to be more so because they know its a farce.

Respect is a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements.

To me, it means at least acknowledging my needs as a person. Basic respect for a fellow human. This is all I ask.

Like, my mom will sometimes argue with her boyfriend on the phone in the middle of the night without giving two shits that I have to be up early for work. That's disrespectful. All I ask is that my needs be considered to a reasonable extent. Especially if you'd expect I do the same for you....
I pay rent here you know I should at least be able to sleep at night.
This is one reason I'm trying to move.
