I notice that teenagers use a lot of slang. I live in the DMV area (D.C., Maryland, and Virginia), so I have heard a lot of slang. I have heard "moe", "son", "chill" "Bob", "oh nah" and some other slang. A lot of people say "lit" a lot, including myself.

An interesting word I often hear at school is "bear", used to mean "very", as in "vaping is bear popular within our age group". Another thing is to describe somebody as a "tank" if you like them: "Callum's a tank for letting me copy his homework".

To be fair though, it is only certain groups of teenagers that use such slang terms. We don't use them nearly as much as some adults would believe, and when we do, it is often to be "ironic".

Seems like all they use now are emojis.

If you play video games, cancer is still a popular slang word, so is cheese, most use of profanity remains the same over time.

@Reciprocal none of those are common in North Cali

Dab is dead, lit is declining in use, meme and memeing are being used a lot now.
Trooper has been used a bit recently.Daddy does not mean someone's dad. "Whose your daddy?" Is probably the most commonly used slang term now. Gay still gets used to describe uncool things, even by people who profess openly that they have nothing against gay people and even show some homosexual tendencies themselves.

Abbreviating words which don't make sense to be abbreviated? LIke saying "sesh" instead of session. An odd fascination with some physical ritual called "dabbing." and a tendency to say "low key" a lot.

The first time I heard it, I thought of English Literature, because it was in school I thought it might be their next lesson or something. :joy:

I heard another one yesterday while out with my friend - 'Bare'
We were eating fast food and this kid sat near us said to his friend 'This burger is just SO bare' Then his friend said 'oh yeah, so bare.'
I still have yet to understand fully if they meant the food was good or not but by the way they were eating it, I think it's a good expression haha

The teacher just starts talking like:

"What up, Class? Today's lesson is gonna be on lit, innit. So like get out your textbooks, and you want to be on point for section 3 on page 21. There's no retakes for this year because YOLO, so please pay attention to this sesh".

I’m actually impressed that I know most of these. I have zero contact with any teenagers.
Haven’t heard bear or bare yet.

    Fun fact:
In 2004 I believe I popularized the term “weak sauce”

Which I believe is a perfect alternative to using the word gay to describe uncool things.

In my country I've started to not understand teenagers anymore. Which makes me feel old as I'm only 22. They have adapted some american slang like "I ship them" or "crush" and it took me some time to understand what they were talking about.

Oh I ship them is more fangirl terminology, don't worry a lot of people have no idea what that is, and knowing isn't exactly considered cool or anything.

Do teenagers still talk anymore or do they just text, tweet, post, etc? I've heard girls use the term "bay" for a boyfriend/crush. Is that slang for "babe"?

In an effort to make a cultural impact of my own, I want to turn either the term "puke" or "vomit" into a good thing. Since "sick", "binge", and "viral" are now good things, why not "puke" or "vomit". Also, it used to be that anytime someone did something incredibly stupid people called them and "uber moron". Well, I want to bring the term "uber moron" back, but this time it will refer to drivers of Uber or other similar companies. I don't use them but someone I know uses them and has complained to me about them, plus, they do not seem to know the meaning of the words "No Parking".
