Haha thanks. All late comers greatfully received. I'm planning to drag my birthday out for at least a couple of weeks at home anyway haha.
flight seats are going at $2k. Cant afford that. A lot of them are having their jobs pay for them. If my grandmother gets flown out though, there will be space on the plane for me. Its a big decision though. FEMA is trying to rent apartments in my building, so that's a positive. My neighbors moved out yesterday but now my family is moving in. Yikes. Curfew has been extended to 9pm tonight and the alcohol ban has been lifted. P.S. all my single friends have hooked up with someone during this hurricane. WTF I need some loving.
Yeah that's tough. Still sending big hugs. You need to put a shout out to any lonely lesbians in the crisis, there has to be some just waiting for you.
I am so late to the thread. I've been off line a bit. I'm glad you are ok @Soundofmusic. But the conditions sound just awful. The worst hurricane to hit Puerto Rico. And it seems all are affected. I hope your grandmother is ok and I do hope you get to fly out with her if that is the decision. Good move for you and her. Geez. None of this is trivial. Wtf with the alchohol ban too? --> all our brits, thanks for the pics and descriptions of the Victoria sponge. Please give us gals across the pond some culture. @NeonSocks what the hell is a Texas sheet cake? Like a huge sized one?
I have nothing to say except, wow, I'm sorry you're going through this. Your strength sounds incredible!
Wow! This is all so crazy. I hope things will work out for you. Take one day at a time. Thanks for sharing this stuff. I'm sure it's a frustrating time right now. Sending you hugs. ❤️
I know I am late, but I just want want to send some serious love your way, @Soundofmusic. I cannot imagine how incredibly difficult everything is. That is just too much to be dealing with on top of everything else. I am happy to hear you are safe! Go find a really good hug ❤️ I am so sorry for what you are going through.
Haha, it is like a cross between a brownie and a chocolate sheet cake topped with frosting and walnuts. It is second only to the broccoli casserole in dishes Midwestern folks love to bring to fancy get togethers. And @Soundofmusic just wanted to say my thoughts are with you still. Hope you and your family are doing ok!
@Soundofmusic Have you all seen any more federal relief over the last few days? The overall response seems shamefully underwhelming. Broccoli casserole is a healthy side as it has some green in it My husband's family counts apple crisp as a dinner side and it is the weirdest thing to me. I'm more of a sauteed kale / roasted veggie kinda girl. Victoria sponge sounds just delightful!
What would you eat apple crisp with? Roasted veggies are nice. Omg how do you guys not know about Victoria sponge. I feel as though I need to come over there and bake some pronto.
We do but standard American cakes tend to be heavier and sweeter. I also am usually responsible for my own birthday cake
honestly, I'm living in a bubble right now so I don't know much about whats happening outside. All I know is that everything/everyone smells and that the center of the island has people who haven't eaten in days. I feel like I don't know how to help. I'm trying to find out about volunteering opportunities. I believe we are definitely not getting enough help. Its just utter chaos.
I'm so sorry to hear what you are going though but I'm also inspired by your selflessness in helping others. I also live in the Caribbean and I know first hand how horrible a hurricane can be when you live on a small island. Things will get better.
I can't remember the last time I had cake on my birthday. Maybe you could come to Ontario in April and bake me a Victoria Sponge!
