    oh wow!!

I'm glad younger generations are growing more accepting so they wont do that kind of stuff to their children like our moms have done to us

I'm late to this whole conversation about mothers.

But, basically my whole life I wanted to tell my mom that I was not like other girls. I was scared to disappoint her bc basically I was already awkward and didn't love headbands and clothing appliqués.

So, anyway about 6 years ago o was sitting in her kitchen drinking wine with her and I said, you know mom, I like women.

And she nodded her head and said ok. And I was like, cool!! That was going to be the extent of our conversation. I knew it. But in that moment alone, I knew she would be fine with it.

Anyway, she died suddenly four years ago and that moment has given me peace to know that whatever happens, she totally would have supported me with being myself.

I don't think I'd ever be able to tell my mother, or necessarily want her to know. I have a very erm, ordinary, sister and I am NOTHING like her at all it's crazy, and have never been like her in any way shape or form. My mother now still comments on my lack of a boyfriend/partner/husband and how my sister has this wonderful boyfriend blablabla and is getting engaged and how this friend's daughter is getting married and how disappointed she is I didn't get married and why haven't I got my masters finished yet at the same time as everything else and why did I leave my job and what is wrong with me, and why am I wearing boys shirts to work and don't I think that's weird and so on! She lives quite far away though!

@RJay I wish I could have a dramatic haircut but I really don't think it would suit me at all- absolutely love short hair but I don't exactly have the daintiest of faces to pull it off. Sad times!

Hey Lego, you never know about the hair. When you say dramatic, do you mean short? If you google Will I look good with short hair, there's actually a formula which will give you an idea. It has something to do with the distance between your earlobe and your chin. Anyway, I've cut my hair short after having it no shorter than just above my shoulders and I've had lots of compliments. The girl who cut my hair suggested that because I wore a ponytail much of the time, it wouldn't be too much of a shock. It wasn't.

Alternatively, you could download one of those free apps which lets you use a photo of yourself to "try on" different hairstyles. They probably won't be anything you really want but they'll give you an idea of how different styles look on you.

Yeah I'd love to cut it short. I did once when I was 18 I think, and my friends were horrified as it had been very long/curlyish and their level of horror convinced me I should grow it again! my earlobe chin distance will be off, I have teeny elf ears & totally oversized chin that Ive hated since the dawn of time. I sound like a mutant I know However I almost always have my hair up so logically it wouldn't be that different, I never thought of that!

Hair grows really fast. You don't notice this until it's short. So if it doesn't work, you can grow it out in a few months. I had to keep getting it cut every 6 or 8 weeks but I've since figured out how to cut it myself. Talk about mutant. Haha. I just did it two days ago and got a compliment this evening so it's all good.

@Lego I am certain you do not look like a mutant! We are all soooo much harder on ourselves than we need to be!

One more story re: 'MOMS-the hair related angle.' In 4th grade I suddenly broke out with these pimples? I didn't really know what, on my forehead. All I knew was VERY itchy. So I scratched and scratched them. Of course it all turned out to be chicken pox.

All that scratching led to scarring, as scratched chicken pox do.
My mom: 'I HOPE you are happy with what you did and those scars. You will ALWAYS have to wear bangs now!!!'

Sooo 41 years later, STILL wearing bangs, always have. This sort of MOM bs runs deep. Sigh...

Ooh! Freaky! I had chicken pox in grade 4, too!

As far as moms and hair. My mom likes my short haircut. I've never coloured my hair but at one point, a few years ago, she kept suggesting I should colour it the same as the dog. He was like the one in my avatar. Yup. You read that right.
