I watched the pilot of the show "Salvation" the other day, which brought up the topic of humanity's MVP (Minimum Viable Population. This is the minimum population necessary for a species to survive extinction (as in, after a mass extinction event). In the show, they quoted that number at 166 individuals and I was sitting here wondering whether or not that figure was accurate.

I was then correlating that to a book I'd read recently called "The Last Tribe" and figuring if the figure from Salvation was correct, how long that tribe might survive before they were wiped out.

Have an interview with a company based in Colorado. One step closer to escaping this desolate wasteland. I love Texas but the politics here are shit.

Maybe I should ask the student disability board about a generalised learning disorder test, I have to wonder if they offer any services like that and even though I feel awkward asking about it- maybe it's worth a try. Even if I can't get tested for dyscalculia, (I doubt I could, most education boards I've spoken to didn't know it exists) I could still try a generalised test to see if I qualify for a general learning disorder diagnosis.

Update: Hmm, well showing some positive signs so far, the website mentions dyscalculia (so at least they know about it! Finally!) and there is some mention of a possible assessment, but I don't want to get too hopeful yet as that could just mean "We've assessed your situation and decided we don't care because you don't have a diagnosis and we're not going to link you to any resources that could give you such a diagnosis that you would need for the support we provide, because that's the education system! Offering help for the diagnosed, and none for those struggling to find a place that will diagnose, so only a select few suffering ever manage to find a way in".

I was talking to my mom and her boyfriend about work (since he retired and she still works there), and they told me my shift manager (who they've known since I was like 15) said he's keeping me on my machine. I'm super stoked about that since, despite being there for three days as of tonight, I'm super on my feet with my post and I joked with my trainer that my goal is to assemble boxes like those dudes in the Dominos commercials.

But yeah, aside from being known as my mom's daughter (despite being on T for 2.5 years; so my voice is deeper and I have facial hair), all is good. I'm hoping to spend a chunk of my first paycheck on a new tattoo, then I'm going to start paying off my con bills.

David Bowie's music is fabulous. So sad that he passed away.

Yeah, I was sheltered from music as a child so every artist I discover is from my own curiosity or stumbling upon. I'd heard of Bowie before, but never listened to his work because it was "old" music... Horrifying reasoning I know. But one of my favourite actors favourite musicians was Bowie so I was prompted to take a listen. And I cannot get enough of his music now.

People suck. They're so toxic that it's gotten to the point where if there's an article on FB or anywhere else, and it has ANYTHING to do with any topic that is vaguely controversial, I just scroll right past the comments. That goes double if it's about LGBT/political stuff. People just feel free to be utter dicks to one another anymore, and I'm just so tired of all the toxicity. It's getting exhausting to see.

I have to leave for work in 30 minutes, and my ass decided it would be a good idea to not take a nap beforehand. Here's to hoping I don't fall asleep at my machine.

Thinking about how I need to stop worrying about the little things that happen at work, and I really need to get my shit together.
