What are your political views?

Probably best described as a moderate Democrat. But I'm a registered fuckdonaldtrumpican.

So, eh, yeah. I consider myself quite left wing. Progressive. Caring about human rights, the environment, and fighting (but not completely closing) the gap between rich and poor. The Dutch health care system also needs a big makeover. And there's so much more I want to change.

 

I also don't really define myself under one party anymore. I'm definitely more liberal than conservative but I have multiple issues with the main parties in the US. I know there's more than just the few central parties in America but I don't care to label myself with a certain political party.

 

I am centrist both socially and economically. I think a free market is great so long as the government can prevent corporations from becoming too powerful, I think some socialist policies are useful so long as they have concrete benefits to my community, and I think traditional values are best so long as deviations from the norm are allowed to exist for the good of individual liberty. I believe isolationist nationalism is far superior to globalism, and I have a slight tribalist bias towards my country and my people. Free speech is an absolute non-negotiable necessity to me. In words I value honesty before kindness, and in actions I value peace before cruelty. Online tests peg me as barely center left and a little libertarian when they account for the summation of all my choices.

You are a citizen. Literally everything a democratic government does concerns you. It is done in your name, with your money, for you. Its responsibilities ultimately flow down to you.

Collective apathy is the greatest risk to democracy. Your individual voice doesn't sway elections, no. But if you and half the population refuse to participate, you risk the future of the only form of society that ever would take your voice into account.

I believe in a centrist, capitalist, internationalist political system. Strategically, I am willing to back centre-left and centre-right politicians if they successfully strengthen that system.

I've made something of a volte-face over past year and become generally centre-right, either on the right of the Labor Party or the centrist wing of the Liberals - I have faith in a competitive market, an overall low but progressive income tax rate, low corporate taxes, a commitment to free trade, low welfare spending beyond a safety net to prevent the indignity of dependence, the maintenance of sophisticated institutions for defence and intelligence and low public borrowing. Where I differ from the Australian right is generally on climate change, refugee politics and a belief in multilateralism over bilateralism in foreign affairs.

 

I'm on the liberal side, but I have mixed ideals/beliefs. I'm registered as a Democrat, and although I don't always agree with the Democratic Party, I align as more liberal/Democratic.

 

Center-left leaning.

 

To the extent that I believe labels are helpful, I identify as Progressive, extremely toward the left. I vote Democrat, but I'm so disgusted at how the DNC handled the 2016 election, that I'm backing off and expressing to them my extreme disappointment in how easily they lost the election. I mean, look at how hard *Bernie* worked every step of the way! That's where the progressive energy was, and the DNC (and Hillary) didn't realize that until it was too late.

 

A pragmatist mostly, which puts me left of Center but keeps me from getting too far left. Very firmly pro-choice and against trickle-down economics because it puts anybody who's not rich on an economic treadmill.

 

Green party in a lot of ways, although I am pro-life and more pro-family (on issues like parental rights) then liberals tend to be.

 

Socialism has a place in society and in government. Capitalist acts should be allowed between consenting adults. Healthcare is a human right. Personal self defense (including with a firearm) is a human right. Big government and economic growth aren't mutually exclusive, in fact the opposite. Big government should not mean less freedom and it doesn't have to. Government officials should be held very strictly accountable to the needs of the people, all people. We are our brothers keepers. Corporations are not people. Social equality and justice should be paramount. Punishments should fit the magnitude of the crime and how many people a crime negatively affects, including and perhaps especially corporate, financial and political crimes.

 

I'm a registered Democrat, and mostly vote as such, but I have been told in the past some of my views are more Republican/conservative leaning.

I'm for:
-LGBT rights.
-women's rights/equality/equal pay.
-taxing the rich
-immigration (as long as it's legal immigration)
-stricter gun laws
-affordable healthcare and education for everyone
-support for the environment
-greater funding for schools and the arts


I'm against
-legalizing marijuana
-abortion

That is essentially how I feel. Though I find a certain group of people pushing me further towards all out socialist...
