Remember that the context for this is also the ongoing investigation into the question of Russia's involvement in the 2016 election.

Here's a good snippet of a piece in The Atlantic from David Frum:

It seems like he just doesn't want anyone investigating him which comes off as very sketchy.

He is showing Americans that he can't be trusted and also that he has no confidence in the intelligence agencies. It is dangerous for him to send a message to us that the FBI can't be trusted. He wants us all to think he is the all-knowing omnipresent being that all US citizens should believe to be truthful.

People already feel on edge. Trump and his people are just asking for a bunch of conspiracy theories.

There is alll sorts of crazy stuff going on in the White House right now. This is just the latest thing. Trump is too scared to have anybody investigating him, which is pretty scary. I think that the next few months are going to be very interesting. He wants people to stop asking questions. He wants the media to just take his word for things. That's why he labels every news report that he does not agree with fake news. He likely fired the FBI director to try to stay above the law.

If you go to the washington post website, it has said for a bit now that "Democracy dies in darkness". I think that we are seeing that more and more each day.

What gets me is that Trump's administration had at least a week to come up with some competent talking points, but the current ones are pathetic and unconvincing. They sure don't seem to be making much of an effort to cast off the suspicion of a cover-up.

Everybody knows Trump's campaign obviously had contact with the Russian government. I mean Trump publicly called on them to hack Clinton's e-mails and praised Putin to no end for god's sake. Trump's reasoning for firing Comey is so insulting to one's intelligence also, when Trump praised Comey for publicly "re-opening" the Clinton e-mail investigation one week before the election and him doing so brought Comey's "reputation" back. I guess Comey wasn't as much a puppet of Trump's as I thought, and apparently Comey was asking for more funds to investigate the Trump/Russia connection before he was canned. Trump is such a joke and so corrupt, but he completely gets a way with it and his base never will care. What a sad state the American political climate has become.

What is interesting is this article from the Washington Post. It cites 30 different officials, some of which spoke under the condition that their names be omitted. Citing 30 officials in a news article is almost unheard of. Things are getting interesting, that's for sure.

There is also this article that was just recently went up that talks about how the FBI was just starting to dig deeper into the Russia ties.

He is basically firing everybody that has been trying to investigate him for having ties to Russia. On top of that, he had a meeting with Russian officials where only Russian media (which is government ran) was invited. No US journalists were allowed access to this meeting.

Doing this is only going to cause more scrutiny to trump and russia. I was surprised he did this in a way, but then again he keeps doing stupid things. I just hope we get the truth on all the russia involvement someday and ideally trump gets put in jail for something or other. Pence as president isn't great either, but he's likely picking many of the anti-LGBT people for official positions anyway so that wouldn't change.

If trump would just be honest and transparent like claimed he would be, drain the swamp and all that, he wouldn't have anything to worry about. I never believed he'd be honest or transparent.
