I went and saw the movie Moonlight. Wow. Although I did not go through the kind of things the character Chiron did, there are many parallels to what happened to me.

    Parallels:
    a) mother clueless about her sons sexuality.
    b) no one in Chiron's life to really help him.
    c) abuse by other kids his age and older.
    d) this is a biggie. not knowing about love.
    e) no rescue. just had to take the abuse. no escape.

I saw it last night with some old friends and liked it. Glad it won all the awards and maybe open some minds to get over prejudice.

I thought it was a great movie. The cinematography was incredible the rawness and vulnerability of the characters.... absolutely loved it. It's a bit slow so it's not a movie I would want to watch over and over but it deserved all the awards and nominations it got.

I haven't seen it yet, but it looks fantastic and I'm glad it won the awards it did. It's not everyday that an indie movie beats out a Hollywood feature.

It was a really powerful movie. I could identify with the introspectiveness of Chiron.

I finally watched it for the first time a couple days ago and I thought it was amazing. It definitely deserves all the recognition and the awards that it got.

Ya so could I. When I was watching the movie I couldn't put my finger on his "withdraw" state. But once the movie ended and I stopped WITHDRAWING I got it.

Change in subject. The movie was so well done. There has a hit of sexual intimacy but not enough to disgust the audience.

And the last scene, which I will not give away. I could just feel the emotion of Chiron.

It definitely lacks the dynamics of the movies I've used myself with as of lately. However, I could surely feel the depths and culturally ingrained issues the movie was giving off in its entirety. I think it is worth watching, but don't expect to be mind blown; if anything the film is more of a biography.

I agree that the last scene was very powerful! I could feel his emotion too. I think it was one of the few moments that Chiron really opened up and became vulnerable and that is what makes that moment so special.
