I just don't get it. I'm not interested in his other policy issues (even though they're fabulous) or Hillary Clinton's own but rather why anyone who is LGBT is so terrified of a man who pushed the Republican Party further to the left and who has been very respectful of the LGBT Community, which still bashes him even though he has always spoken favourably on gay and trans rights.

If you're wondering where the photo came from, it's from this event:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqQi0jifJp0

He takes the flag from a gay supporter and starts to unfurl it at 1:07. While that may not be enough, he has spoken at length about protecting LGBT people in nearly every single rally. I'm genuinely puzzled as to why someone who is doing better than any other Republican with minorities is labeled as a hate-monger.

P.S Let's try to keep the discussion civil folks!

Because one; he is holding our flag wrong. Two; he has Pence. Did you not know what Pence did when he was governor in Indiana? Those two are the worst for the LGBTQ community.

Setting the other stuff aside will be hard, but I will try to stick to LGBT stuff. During the course of this campaign he has promised anti-LGBTQ groups that he will sign the GOP-backed First Amendment Defense Act, specifically created to allow for discrimination against LGBT people, and has said he will put justices on the Supreme Court who would overturn the marriage equality decision. He has said he would rescind all executive orders of the current administration aimed at preventing discrimination against the trans community. And of course he selected Pence as his VP candidate.

But on the plus side, I suppose he's at least as hateful to other groups as he is to us. I guess that's equality of a certain sort...

On LGBT issues, he's fine, but Pence is a problem. I hate him because his healthcare & tax plans, his tariffs, and his comments on abortion, though.

Because he's a misogynist and a racist. The LGBT community is NOT the white gay male community. It also includes women and non-whites.

Personally, I am more bothered by his blatant misogyny and sexism toward women. As a lesbian myself, 90% of homophobia directed toward me is based on misogyny and hatred of women. The fact that men think they should cure me, the fact that corrective rape still exists to some extent, we are blamed for our rapes, we "need" a man and have to pretend to like men just to feel safe. Trump outright said women deserve to have our crotches grabbed and he himself was accused of rape. He is not a friend to women which makes him an enemy to lesbians and bi women, who face homophobic oppression based on misogyny.

The misogyny I face in my life is a bigger issue than worrying about LGBT non-issues. I don't care that much about same-sex marriage since I don't want to get married, but I have to worry about sexism and rape laws. Those affect my life so much more than anything else.

And I'm not saying Hillary is my friend either. She's been guilty of this kind of thing in the past, but Trump is still guilty of it in the present.

Not to mention Pence. You should be fearing his homophobia if Trump dies in office.

I am aware of his track record. Pence isn't on the ticket, Trump is. Pence (now with Cruz's support) is shoring in the conservative base. The role of VP is primarily as an attack-dog during the campaign.

How is he holding it wrong? It's a big flag that has to be held at the corners.

During the H2 Bill fiasco in North Carolina Trump caused a stir when he said he had zero problems as to which bathroom Caitlynn Jenner used in Trump Tower. He's been increasingly pro-gay after the primaries to up his lead among progressive independents.

I'm more keen on his stance of stopping radical Islam to our benefit. Better a Supreme Court which you don't agree with than having an open border policy that will lead to physical threats from people who come from an entirely different. His extreme vetting procedure will include questions on treatment of LGBT people. A Trump administration will not promote discrimination towards LGBT people and his promotion for our cause has lost him voters. He doesn't gain anything considering his support among the LGBT Community is only 18% yet he still stuck out for us to his own disadvantage.

Secondly if people stop comparing him to Hitler and calling him a bigot without backing i up, then yeah you'd have to worry about Pence if a nutjob kills Trump. Although frankly Pence has a notably good track record in Indiana in terms of the economy.

Hate is a strong word. And I agree with all of those positions, that aside.

I know trans people (both FtM and MtF) who adore Trump (although they don't say that openly) and it is the same with other lesbian women. The misogyny and sexism argument has only been used as a label to attack him repeatedly and is the tactic of third wave feminism - where everything is somehow sexism. He definitely does not defend rapists, unlike his opponent on different occasions, but that is another matter.

As to the groping matter, he was talking about what he liked to do as far as his sexual appetite went and he said it privately. It could even have been bluff which is the case with blokes. Everyone talks that way, and I don't actually believe that the people who pretended to be shocked on social media saying that they had never heard someone talk like that. Everyone talks like that, especially straight men. All my friends talk like that and so do I if I have a gay-friendly listener. If there's a legitimate question that should be asked it is if a presidential candidate should talk like that but then again this is a recording in 2005 - a time when Trump had no idea he would run for office.

As for the assault claims I don't believe they were genuine and they were mainly promoted for political reasons. An email sent by Gloria Allred, one of the accusers, shows that she was conspiring in 2015 to do ''whatever it takes'' to win back the White House for the Democrats and then discuss further matters in a secret meeting which apparently included the women who later accused Trump.

If you're that worried about rape laws, then you'd want a more conservative government instead of the democratic one, which I guess hasn't worked in this regard for the previous eight years.

Did you join this site strictly to post about politics? I mean you do realize this site has a fairly large liberal base

And it's not just the LGBT community that's so against Trump it's a majority of Americans (at least educated Americans who actually care about the future of our country).

Relevancy to the question at hand? Unfortunately it is true that most LGBT are blindly liberal as they believe the facetious pandering of the democrats... Their rhetoric has brainwashed a lot of the LGBT community into becoming the queer equivalent of third wave feminazis.

Making the assertion that trump voters are uneducated and don't care about the future of the country is disgusting and vile behavior. Quit being a hateful person. I'm not even a Trump supporter, but this type of behavior on a board that is supposed to be about respectful debate/discourse should not be tolerated.

Any evidence to support your claims? Most wealthy people vote republican as they want to continue expanding their businesses, making more money, and hiring more people. The liberal taxation makes it to where they do not have the incentive to do so, which means less jobs overall. Who does that hurt the most? The lower and middle class Americans

It's no question that are educational system is full of socialist/far left liberals. It should also be noted that in the world stage, our educational system is a joke compared to most other 1st world countries.(look at how we fair on international benchmark tests in education, its ugly) What does that say about the group of supposed (liberal) intellectuals in charge of teaching our youth... :icon_wink

You're correct that Trump is no social conservative, but as a Republican president he may end up having to opportunistically kowtow to what social conservatives (like his running mate) want (as he has done by speaking against abortion, even though I don't believe for a second that he is personally opposed to abortion). For this reason, I can't trust him not to wage culture wars the way Ted Cruz vowed to do, though I hope that if he became president, he would not do so.

Despite the many claims that Trump is so honest, I often find him to be disingenuous, especially in pandering to conservatives.

And many of the countries that do even better than us educationally, viz. northern European countries, are even more liberal and socialist than we are, so what does that say?

The point is, TXTurbo, is that I don't see you as being a voice for the equal argumentative playing field here like you so tout yourself, I just see you turning the tables and blaming every societal ill on "the evil liberals"--essentially revealing yourself to be the other side of the same coin. So how does that put your statements above what you see here?

Stop apologizing for Trump. He doesn't deserve it. I can't believe you'd stick up for a dick like him. Wait, I can. Because you're probably a cisgender white male who has never had to deal with any sort of discrimination except possibly your sexuality. The LGBTQ community comes in all shapes and colors and if we aren't being discriminated for being queer we are discriminated for our gender identity, sex, or race. Trump has himself sexually assaulted women. Why would you vote for him?

(Also I see your location is Italy... why does this matter to you at all???)

I think it's funny that you think giving tax breaks to the wealthy is going to creat jobs. It's clear that you're brainwashed living in Texas to believe in conservative theories and that's fine. I'm not here to debate politics, I know who I'm voting for Tuesday.

Oh and what does being wealthy have to do with anything? Unless you're assuming because someone's wealthy that they're educated or that because someone owns a business they're automatically conservative.

Neither Trump nor Clinton is a good choice for us. Trump will be less pro LGBT than Clinton but, she isn't totally pro LGBT either. For me it comes down to a few issues I really care about, not all of the LGBT. In the end Clinton wins, barely but, she will get my vote.

I understand that everyone talks about people they find attractive and sexualizes them to some extent. Even women do. That alone is not an issue with me. However, straight men talk about women in such violent, degrading ways when they sexualize them privately. That is a problem. I have been involved in "girl talks" with straight women who make sexual comments about men, but never in my life have ever heard them speak about men in the violent, degrading, and violating ways I hear men talk about women.

Straight men talk isn't just kept privately as a bragging session either. It actually affects how they treat and view women in real life. I am speaking as a woman with a lot of female friends, and we've all had to face sexual harassment, catcalling, unwanted groping, and being forced/pressured into sex/relationships we do not want. Never in my life have I ever seen a straight women engage in such threatening, inappropriate, or coercive behavior with men, despite the fact they talk about them sexually with other women. Women have to fear strange men, and I have to keep pepper spray with me if I go out. That's not to say that all men are dangerous or rapists, but there are so many that have entitlement issues that you do not know which is which. And if I make the wrong judgement, I'll be hurt because I'm not as strong as men.

My complaint with rape laws has more to do with the fact that actual rapists aren't punished as much as they should be. I know rape is illegal, but It's not an enforced crime. Most rapists never get convicted at all, the victim is blamed and called nasty names, and even if convicted, they may only face a few months in jail. In comparison, using marijuana can get you years in prison, even though it is a victimless crime that hurts no one. This shows there is a huge double standard and hatred toward rape victims. Either make the rape law harsher, or make some other crimes not as harsh. If you think rape only deserves a few months, fine, but there's no reason drug crimes should get the long sentence they do.

Nah, otherwise every single post of mine would be politics. I joined for other motives while I was going through a rough patch, but I guess I became too eager to share my views at the same time.

The majority of Americans support Trump or want to see him elected. College-educated voters are more likely to admit they will vote Trump in polls conducted online than by phone. When there is no one watching, around 6%-7% of people who are college-educated voters (according to a poll released today which I have to look up again) who deny supporting him will vote for him. That's understandable, I get hostility as well as a gay Trump supporter.

Please forgive me because I'm normally far more respectful to a candidate than this, but it needs to get said.

Donald Trump has emboldened and nationalized the white supremacist wing of the Republican Party. His policies are a page out of Mein Kampf (Everything is the fault of an entire religion, create a database of Muslims, stop them from entering the United States). He panders to racists, sexists, homophobes, and other angry old people who are threatened by social change.

He inspired David Duke, a grand wizard of the KKK to run for the United States Senate on Donald Trump's coat tails in Louisiana, blaming Blacks, Mexicans and Muslims for everything that's wrong with our country.

His campaign slogan itself is a dog whistle. It says to the racially prejudiced voters that propelled him to the nomination that he'd put Whites back on top of the social totem pole and give them back the social order that existed in the 1950s. His racist rhetoric has inspired hate crimes all across America, and if he were to win, that trend would most certainly continue, because then we'd have a President pledging to get rid of those thugs (another racial code word).

Put simply, Donald Trump's hardcore supporters are very accurately described by Hillary Clinton's basket of deplorables. They're racists, sexists, homophobes, xenophobes, Islamophobes, or some other kind of phobe. The other half, the so-called "independent swing voters" who tend to decide elections, those that are voting for Donald Trump just because Democrats have been in charge for 8 years in spite of all his hatred and the circus his campaign has become, those people aren't that bright.

The "swing voters" who are about to turn Iowa and Ohio red for Donald Trump and who are going to vote for him in other states just because it's been eight years, I hate to say it but they probably couldn't figure out which side of a coin is heads.

If people actually think that Donald Trump has moved the party to the left, then I've got some Trump steaks I'd like to sell you. White Nationalism is not moving the party to the left, and pledging to sign a "religious freedom" bill that would result in even more legalized discrimination against LGBT people and appointing judges who would overturn gay marriage is not being better on gay rights than Hillary Clinton.

I'm normally amused by the sheer stupidity of the right, but this year I'm scared to death. I am scared to death of the implications a Trump presidency would have on me, my family, my rights, and my humanity as a gay man. For a gay person to vote for Donald Trump makes about as much sense to me as voting for Pat Robertson or Fred Phelps.

Donald Trump is truly a piece of human garbage and Americans will take out the trash on Tuesday. Every time we've confronted an issue like this, from slavery, to gay marriage, to segregation, we did the right thing eventually. This election is no different.

That is correct and it is probably related to the high-levels of testosterone found in men. A large segment of the women I know find this appealing. A few days ago a girl told me she went to a gay bar with a friend and that the guys who were kissing ''were like animals''. Men are extremely sexual as opposed to women, who are sexual to a lesser extent and more emotional. I'm willing to bet, maybe a couple of fingers, that Obama said something of the sort in his past amongst ''his pals''. Maybe even as President. Certainly Bill Clinton was pretty chatty about his endeavors until everyone found out about them. However this was not something that Trump created or invented. Women flock to a rich guy, that is a known fact. In fact they tell you when you're young, that if you're an ugly bloke, you better become rich to get a fantastic wife and they tell girls to study hard, otherwise they will end up with such a guy as their husband.

That is unacceptable if it is unwanted. While I have been groped by a woman myself just four days ago (and I treat this issue with amusement in my case because I'm a guy who likes guys, but if I'm drunk at a party I won't care too much about if unwanted advances are made) it is a rare occurrence. You should report sexual harassment when you see it to the local authorities. If they aren't doing anything, then that's all the more reason to want to change the current government.

As far as rapists go, I'm aware of several high-profile American cases where the guy was found guilty but given a very lenient sentence. I don't know how laws in America work, but clearly the present administration isn't doing enough to protect women, children and even other men who are victims of rape. The one good thin about Republicans is that as far as sex goes, they're extremely strict in sentencing.

Hmmmm...I guess we don't really disagree then. I would probably be fine with the way some men 'talk' if they kept it to themselves and didn't treat other women that way, but I tend to be a bit fearful of what it could lead to if they actually started treating women as violently as they talked. Of course, I could be a bit jaded on all the sexual harassment I actually see.

Maybe It's because I'm a lesbian, but I tend to see it more than even some straight women do, I guess because guys think lesbians are hot and want to cure us with their dicks. Of course whatever they find hot is their business (some women find gay guys hot too) but I hate being talked down to or threatened to be cured/to date them. I have had a fear of straight men for a while because of the kind of behavior I saw. I would like to not have that fear anymore though.
