Does anyone else find it ironic that it's International Women's Day and virtually nobody knows it or is even aware that there *is* such a thing?

I mean, if it was International Men's Day, the World would fucking *know* it!!

    *celebrates quietly*

Yeah, I agree with @biAnnika. It just seems most people just think it's basically International Vagina Owner's Day, up there with Secretaries and Admins Day in terms of importance.

International Oreo Cookie Day probably has more recognition than this day.

I don't share the experience of this day not being recognized. It's rather well known here. There are some activities in town that I might partake in. I'm tired though, so we'll see. There's this particular lecture that seems interesting, but the subject might be too difficult to deal with for me.

The International Men's Day takes place on the 19th of November, the same day as World Toilet Day.

You're wrong. International Men day is less well-known. I didn't fucking *know* it 3 years ago and I couldn't even remember the date. Meanwhile, I've known the existence of Women's day for all my life.
I despise the celebration of this day. This reminds me of a bunch of school girls moaning endlessly about how where their gifts, the lack of boys, blah blah, and how I was supposed to give them special treatment on that day.
The only woman I'd consider doing something for is my mum. I'd better call her today.

That's a rather narrow minded and petty assessment Kinky.

Happy day to all women/gals on this forum, and specially to Invidia for remembering and making this thread. I forgot this year, and last year... Please take away my feminist credentials (some of you tried to do it already the very second I came out)

No shit... And then they always say it's girls who go together to the bathroom.

I'm talking from another perspective. I utterly loathe this day and I'm quite gleeful to talk about how much I loathe it. In my country, there are two Women days, this one and the other is the national version. Everyone knows about it. Back in my school days, we were kind of forced into celebrate it. It was like bloody religious holiday. Boys were expected to give gifts to girls on both occasions. And the girls took it for granted. In high school, there were only 4 guys in our class. We forgot about the national day and our homeroom teacher reprimanded us about it and she said how they were girls, they liked gifts, their feelings are hurt...The boys always did all the menial tasks but they were expected to show the girls gratitude for being what, girls? How was that equality or fair? Why should I honor women on a particular date because I'm told to, when I don't care about 99,999999999% of women in the world ? Had people left it to my own volition, I might have been more involved in this celebration. I don't appreciate it being shoved down my throat because of the education system. And then there is Teacher's Day, when it is compulsory to write your teacher a poem on how great teachers are!

To sum it up, I hate these types of days because they are enforced by the government, schools, social conventions. Now, I'm happy that I can ignore all that without any penalty to myself. No one can guilt trip me for forgetting about them anymore.

Wouldn't the lack of all that stuff mean pretty severe net boredom, though? I mean, that would include a lot of festivals and other stuff.

Really? Huh, over here it's just been an average day. Only found out it was today thanks to Google and its many doodles.

hah yeah, I had no idea it existed until Facebook told me about it. And of course the only other thing I've seen on my FB timeline about it is a female friend bitching about how she's not into it, not that this was a shocking development coming from her.

Congratulations on having a Vagina. 50% of the population are all amazing and all have so much in common that they exist in a monolithic group that can be celebrated for no reason on 1 day.
